Stitching With Twine On Your Scrapbook Page

My sleep schedule has been a little off lately because of our new puppy, so I apologize for the delay in sharing my Stitching with Twine Tutorial. I mentioned it the other day when I first shared my Love Your Smile layout that was part of the Elle's Studio August 2014 Kit Reveal. Trying to write a detailed tutorial just wasn't an option until now. We're really trying to supervise him when he's not in his crate and we aren't putting him in his crate much, so unless he's sleeping, I'm busy with him. Today, I got a nap while he was napping, so I'm feeling a bit more refreshed and ready to blog!

TUTORIAL | STITCHING WITH TWINE ON YOUR SCRAPBOOK PAGE

The tutorial I'm sharing is Stitching with Twine on your scrapbook page. I know this is nothing new, but I wanted to share some a brief tutorial and some tips on how I hand stitch on my layouts.

Stitching With Twine On Your Scrapbook Page Tutorial by Juliana Michaels featuring Elle's Studio and The Twinery Twine

To start, I used my needle to poke holes where I wanted to run the twine. I choose to add the twine along the edge of the sun rays to help accent the design.

When there was paper to poke, I poked a hole in the paper to run the twine through. These are some of the holes I poked in the center where there was paper to poke. I didn't go all the way to the center because I already knew that my photo would be covering this area and it would save some of my twine.

For the twine that went to the edge of the paper, I simply wrapped the end over the backside of the page and used washi tape to help hold it in place.

The final step was to add my photo and die cut grouping. I preplanned where I wanted to position these on the layout before I added the stitching. Once the stitching was completed, all I had to do was adhere this grouping onto the background and then add the rest of my embellishments.

Elle's Studio August 2014 Kit Reveal

Love Your Smile Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring Elle's Studio August 2014 Exclusive Kit

Where has summer gone? Do you feel like it has flown by too? I really can't believe it's August already. School will be back in session soon, cooler weather will be arriving and football season will be starting. We're a little excited about football here in Cleveland this year. All of you football fans out there will know exactly what I'm talking about!

August also brings the reveal of the Elle's Studio exclusive August Kit. This month, they have a fabulous Tag Kit, Cut File,  and Back to School cork. Did I say cork? Yes, I did! Elle's Studio has added cork embellishments to their product arsenal and I just know you are going to love them as much as I do!

The layout I'm sharing today is another photo from our trip to Mazatlan, Mexico last summer. I'm slowing getting through my photos from this trip and Elle's Studio Shine collection has been perfect for helping me do that. I've created quite a few pocket style pages, but some of my favorite photos have earned their own private page! This photo of Danny did just that. I truly love his smile and his heart!

Stop back by on Tuesday and I will be sharing more details on how I created this layout, including a tutorial on Stitching With Twine On Your Scrapbook Page. I do hope you will return and check it out!

Free Cut File Friday - Potty People Wedding

As many of you know, I have been creating FREE digital cut files for quite some time now. I love to make them and I love to share them! My plan from now on is to create and share a free one at least 1-2 times a month (maybe more) and post them here on my blogs on Friday! Today, I have a fun collection to share called Potty People Wedding. I originally created this for a set of projects I created for SRM Stickers CHA booth in January to help showcase their new adhesive vinyl.

FREE DIGITAL CUT FILE | POTTY PEOPLE WEDDING

Today, I have a fun collection to share called Potty People Wedding. I originally created this for a set of projects wedding favors that I created for SRM Stickers CHA booth in January to help showcase their new adhesive vinyl. These images can be cut from vinyl, stencil material, cardstock and patterned paper using an electronic digital cutting machine. They can be used for a full range of projects, including cards, home decor, scrapbook pages and more. This digital file is available in SVG, PNG, DXF and Studio formats and you may download this digital cut file for FREE for your own personal use. Please refer to my terms of use for more information if you wish to use these for more than your own personal projects.

Now I want to share a couple of projects I made using this file. For this first one, I used the Potty People on a SRM Stickers Glassine Bag to create a wedding favor. I welded the two potty people's hands together to create one larger sticker from the adhesive vinyl. There is a quick tutorial on the SRM Stickers blog on how I cut and adhered the vinyl to the glassine bag. You can check it out by clicking on the link here: SRM Stickers - Playing with Vinyl Tutorial by Juliana

On this wedding favor, I cut the wedding rings from the vinyl and then adhered them to a SRM Stickers clear container purse.

I hope you enjoy the free cut file! I am looking forward to using the titles on a scrapbook page soon myself. And as always, I'd LOVE to see what you create with my cut files. If you have something to share, you can link it below or post it on Facebook and tag me!

3 Birds Studio Thank You Card

Hello and thank you for stopping by! The Thank You card I am sharing with you today was created using the 3 Birds Studio Graceful Season collection. I used scraps from my recent "Celebrate" scrapbook page to create it and another card that is up on the 3 Birds Studio Blog. To keep it simple, I copied the design of this card from the other card but I mixed it up by using different papers and a different sentiment. I hope you will visit the 3 Birds Studio Blog to see my other card and let me know what you think of them!

Tis The Season Christmas Cards

Making Christmas cards is something I always enjoy doing. I think most of my friends and family have come to expect them! It is great when you can keep this process easy and simple. Especially if you have a long Christmas card list. This set of Tis the Season Christmas Cards came together quickly using the SRM's Christmas Stickers by the Dozen and a few sheets of patterned paper from the BoBunny Elf Magic collection.  I made 6 other Christmas cards using these same supplies that were recently on the SRM Stickers blog.

The first time I saw this paper, I knew it would make some quick and easy Christmas cards. I simply cut out each image and mounted it on a more solid piece of patterned paper before attaching it to the card base.  This sheet will then make 12 Christmas cards!

I Treasure This | Elle's Studio Sketch

I had some time to play on Monday and as I was looking around the world wide web, I came across a great sketch from Elle's Studio. It is a rather simple sketch, but it appealed to me and of course I had to add my own spin to it. I have a small bit of Elle's goodies in my stash and it was fun to pull them out and use up a few of them. Especially since I have some new stuff coming my way from them!

I TREASURE THIS | LAYOUT

TIP | Ink Splatters

This just kind of came to me as I was thinking about adding some paint splatters to my layout. What if I tried to do this with my Distress Stains? What if I slammed it down hard on my paper? Would the ink splatter? Well, I tried it and it worked. Of course, I practiced on some scrap paper first. When you try this, The only thing I can recommend is to not be afraid and just go for it. And it was actually kind of fun, so you may see this again real soon!

Made With Love Thanksgiving Layout

Fall, is not quite here, but with the start of school we all know that cooler weather, colorful foliage and fresh from the oven pies are on their way! The layout I have to share today was created as a design team assignment for SRM Stickers and our focus was to be Thanksgiving. I created this as a tribute to the homemade pumpkin and pecan pies that my Mom makes every year for Thanksgiving. Besides the tradition of her making these two pies, pretty much everyone in the family will have a slice of each pie on the same plate when it's time for dessert!

TIP | Use SRM Stickers to create titles and to customize your patterned paper
To create my layout title, I added one of the SRM Stickers to a strip of mostly solid patterned paper, trimmed around it and then attached it to my layout.
The fun part with the clear stickers however, was using them to create a word collage on my patterned paper.  I used a combination of SRM Thanksgiving stickers and placed them in random places, but still in a horizontal position, on the patterned paper. By doing this, I was able to customize the already beautiful patterned paper.

TIP | Hidden journaling using Kraft bags
I included copies of my Mom's recipes on my layout. My Mom scanned her recipes and then sent them to me. I printed them on white cardstock, attached them to a die cut tag and placed them inside one of the 5 x 7.5" SRM Stickers Kraft Bags. The bag was then used as a mat for my photo of the pies and I embellished it with some BoBunny embellishments and twine from The Twinery.

Did you notice that I placed one recipe on one side and the other on the other side? I think this is such a fun way to preserve memories and recipes. What are some of your favorite Thanksgiving traditions, memories or recipes?

SRM Stickers Princess Purse

Are you looking for a fun gift or party favor idea? I just might have a fun little idea for you today using the SRM Stickers Clear Purses. When I first saw these Clear Purses I fell in love. I also immediately thought of my niece who loves all things pink and princess and I knew I wanted to make her a little pink princess purse!

INSPIRED BY |  My niece
This time, I was inspired by my niece for the princess theme, so I choose the We've Got Your Sticker - Princess sticker sheet to decorate the container. I was also inspired to use the frog prince sticker because of a scrap of green ribbon that was laying on my scrappy table. Otherwise I might have passed over him and in the end I think the green adds a fun punch of color.

TREND |  Twine and Stencils
Twine is everywhere now, and I love it! I am a huge fan of it and the sheer number of colors that it is available from The Twinery is amazing! I am not much of a ribbon girl, but there is something homey and comfortable about twine that makes me want to use it.
Another fun trend on this project is the use of a stencil and modeling paste. I have been seeing this trend quite a bit lately too where crafters are using stencils with a variety of medium to added a fun mixed media feel to their projects.

TECHNIQUE | Stencils and Modeling Paste
The technique is quite simple here. I placed a Crafters Workshop stencil on the front of the clear purse before I assembled it and it was still flat. I used a bit of removable adhesive to help hold the stencil in place along with my fingers and then I applied a thin layer of Liquitex modeling paste over the top of it with a palette knife. You can also use an old gift card or credit card. I have tried both, but I have found that I prefer the palette knife because it gives me a little more control of the paste. One thing that happened while I was making this is that the modeling paste "leaked" a little under the stencil. Of course this is no problem and I was fine with this look, but you may prefer a more clean design. A different brand or thicker modeling paste may have helped or maybe a stencil that is not so delicate. I am not sure since this is not my area of expertise, but definitely some things to think about. Another thought is to go ahead and let the design carry over onto the sides. I attempted to be careful as I applied the paste because I was trying to only have the design on the front of the purse. I was not entirely successful, so if this is the look you want, I would recommend creating a mask of some sort using masking tape or the like to protect the areas where you don't want the paste. In the end, I think it would have been just fine to have the design on the front and sides.

SRM Stickers | Birthday Calendar

I don't know about you, but I have a heck of a time keeping up with birthdays and anniversaries. I am good with my really close family members birthdays, but not so good with anniversaries and in-laws. My goal for next year (Yes! I am already thinking about 2014!!!) is to send handmade birthday and/or anniversary cards to everyone, so I created a calendar using a combination of SRM Stickers calendar stickers, patterned paper, twine and chipboard. I am hoping this calendar will help me stay on track!

SRM Stickers Birthday Calendar by Juliana Michaels

Instructions:

  1. Cut base from a sheet of chipboard cut at 5 x 12"  and cover with a piece of patterned paper.
  2. Cut each page for the calendar from patterned paper at 4 x 8".
  3. Punch two holes in the top of each page and add eyelets to increase the sturdiness of the holes.
  4. Line up patterned paper calendar page and punch two holes in the chipboard base and add eyelets.
  5. Print Mini Calendar Template (linked below) on white cardstock and trim each piece to 3 x 7" following guidelines on template.
  6. Decorate each calendar page with a Mini Calendar sticker and the corresponding month sticker from the Calendar Companion stickers.
  7. Attach calendar pages to the chipboard base by threading an 18" length of twine through the holes and then tie it in front.
  8. Adhere twine around outside edge of chipboard base using Glossy Accents.
  9. Add clips and another length of twine and you are ready to hang your calendar.

When you look at the template or print it, you will see that there are light gray lines that will print on the template. I used these as a guide to trim the cardstock to the correct size after I had printed it. I will then write the date, name and/or event that I want to remember on the lines for each month.

You can download the Mini Calendar Template Printable if you like.

SRM Stickers Birthday Calendar by Juliana Michaels detail

To help each month stand out more, I used the month stickers from the Calendar Companion. I then added a mini calendar and the month to each page. The nice part about having the actual calendar image on each page is that it will let me know what day of the week the birthday or event falls on so that I can get my card in the mail on time! Before I added the stickers to my project, I applied all of the stickers to white cardstock. I also put eyelets through the chipboard base and then tied the pages to it using the twine. When each month is over, I plan to untie the twine and remove that month. I adhered the twine around the outside edge of the chipboard base using Glossy Accents as an adhesive.
