Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop Giveaway on 17turtles

Now let's get onto the project that I created to share with you today. I have to admit, it's been really hard to get into the spring spirit here in Cleveland. It has been so cold and we still have inches of snow on the ground. With that being said, I ended up focusing mostly on the coffee part of things!

I was inspired to create a card and gift card holder (containing a Starbuck's gift card).

With Enough Coffee Anything Is Possible Card and Starbucks Gift Card Holder by Juliana Michaels

I created the title on my card using a combination of letter stickers and a digital cut file - Coffee Possible - that you can download for FREE below!

I continued the coffee theme by adding some stamping using a fun coffee stain type stamp.

For the gift card, I created a card using one of the cup images from the 17turtles I Love Coffee & Tea Digital Cut File. Below, I have a quick little tutorial for you on how I took that image and turned it into a card.

SILHOUETTE TUTORIAL | Welding A Cut File Image To Create A Card

To create the card shape, begin by opening the I Love Coffee & Tea Cut File and then separating the 2 layers. Next, select which image you want to use to create the card and delete the other one from the mat.

As you can see, I choose the solid shape. Next make a copy of the image and then flip it horizontally. Line up the images so that they are even with each other and then move one of the images until it very slightly overlaps the other image.

Once the images are lined up and slightly overlapped, select both images, right click and select weld. This will turn the two shapes into one shape that you can fold in half and use as a card. I created a small pocket on the inside of the card to hold the gift card. I did this by attaching the bottom and two sides of a small rectangular piece of cardstock to the inside of the card.

Multiple Ways To Use The Same Digital Cut File | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial

Happy Monday 17turtles Fans! I hope you had a great weekend. I had a wonderful weekend despite the cold weather and snow here in Cleveland. This kind of weather is perfect for staying inside and scrapbooking!

Today, I'm sharing a new layout using a new 17turtles Cut File Y Yes No. 1, that just became available in the 17turtles Shop. I'm also sharing some fun options on how to use this cut file beside how I used it on this layout.

Love Anniversary Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring 17turtles Digital Cut Files Love Always and Y Yes No. 1 Background

I created Y Yes No. 1 so that it could be used in multiple ways to create a fun design for the background of a scrapbook page.  I love the idea of filling in shapes with different colors and patterns. It makes me feel like I'm using more of my stash of papers and in my book, that is always a good thing!

17TURTLES DIGITAL CUT FILE | Y YES NO. 1

17turtles Digital Cut Files Y Yes 1 Background

As you can see from the image of the cut file above, there are 2 different colors. With ALL 17turtles Cut Files, different colors indicate that there are separate layers. This file has 2 different layers! On the layout that I created, I opened the file in Silhouette and then moved the top layer off to the side so that it would not be cut.

Different colors and different layers with 17turtles Digital Cut Files

I then cut the bottom layer darker from a piece of kraft cardstock and used the cut shapes on my layout. To help me position the shapes on my background paper, I used the large negative piece as a template.

For the next step, I switched the layers and placed the top layer onto the mat. I then selected the layer, right clicked and then ungrouped the shapes.

Ungrouping images with 17turtles Digital Cut Files

By ungrouping the shapes, I was then able to use the Fill Color option to play around and help me decide which pieces I wanted to cut from what color of patterned paper. Once I was happy with things,  I deleted the rest of the shapes that I did not want to cut.

Using the Fill Color Option with 17turtles Digital Cut Files

I then grouped each of the same colored shapes together and placed them in different corners of the mat. To help save paper, I cut pieces of paper that are just slightly larger than the grouped areas and place the paper onto the mat for cutting in that area. That way, I can cut all of the different colors at the same time.

Grouping and Cutting with 17turtles Digital Cut Files

Now, another fun option for this cut file is to use only the bottom layer and throw away the inside cut pieces (or save them for another project). You can then back the openings with different colors and patterns.

17turtles Digital Cut File Y Yes No. 1 Option 1

Another option would be to only use the top layer as a background. You could again, not the inside pieces or you could fill the openings. The cut file really has so many wonderful options!

17turtles Digital Cut File Y Yes No. 1 Option 2

The other cut file that I used on this layout is called Love Always and I used it to create my title.

17TURTLES DIGITAL CUT FILE | LOVE ALWAYS

17turtles Digital Cut Files Love Always

I simply cut the words from white cardstock and then attached them to my layout.

Valentine's Day Scrapbook Page Ideas With Digital Cut Files

Hi there! Suzanna here to share with you a love-ly layout created using two great Valentine's/love cut files from 17turtles. Now that Valentine's Day has come and gone and you have some great pictures to scrap, what better compliments than 17turtle cut files?!

Simply Us Scrapbook Page by Suzanna Lee featuring 17turtles Digital Cut Files Running Arrows and Speech Bubble Love

When you purchase the Running Arrows cut file, you are actually getting more than just a background! There are two files incorporated into one; the background repeated arrows and separate arrows which you can either overlay on your project or separate. I have done both here on my layout. I overlaid a different color arrow on the top right and then used it separately on the ampersand paper.

The other file I used on this layout and would be great for a love or Valentine's day themed layout is Speech Bubbles Love. Four GREAT files for one low price! The great thing about Juliana's files is that they are so incredibly easy to elongate, shrink, enlarge or manipulate in any way that you need to to have them work on your layout.

Be sure to stop by my personal blog next week for another love layout. Juliana created a Custom Cut File just for me (be sure to check out how to have one created just for you!) to use on a layout of my Mum and Dad on their wedding day!

Do you see how you could use either of these great cut files with any of the pictures you took this weekend? Or perhaps, pictures from just an ordinary day, like the one I used here?

CUT IT UP TECHNIQUE WITH BACKGROUND DIGITAL CUT FILES

I started with the 17turtles X Marks The Spot Background Cut File and cut it from white cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo. However, instead of using it as one large piece on my background, I cut it into pieces to let it look like it was hanging off the sides of my page. I still used it as a background element, but this technique helps you get a little more out of a cut file by giving you a different way to use it. I always like to get the most out of my crafty stash, don't you?

Getting The Most Out Of Your Silhouette Cutting Mats | A Silhouette Cameo Tip

Hi everyone! It’s Monique on the blog today sharing my very first design team project for 17turtles Digital Cut Files! I had a hard time choosing which cut file I was going to use for my project, as I love all the cut files Juliana created! In the end I chose not one, but two cut files. For the background I used the cut file “Star Power” and for the title I used one of the words from the “Grateful Fall” cut file.

Together Scrapbook Page by Monique Liedtke featuring 17turtles Digital Cut Files Star Power and Grateful Fall

They cut file cut really beautifully as you can see.

Together Scrapbook Page by Monique Liedtke featuring 17turtles Digital Cut Files Star Power and Grateful Fall

I have to admit I was a bit worried with the large background cut file, as my cutting mat is getting old, is used a lot and is not so very sticky anymore. When that happens, sometimes the very pointy parts of a cut will then ripple instead of being cut. To avoid this from happening and to avoid my paper coming lose from the cutting mat, I have this little trick that I learned from my friend Yvonne. I place a paper back book on both sides of my Cameo, so when the cutting mat moves forwards and backwards it slides over the books and therefore stays straight instead of bending down to the table (which in some cases caused my paper to pop up from the cutting mat).

Getting The Most Out Of Your Older Silhouette Cutting Mats | A Silhouette Cameo Tip by Monique Liedtke

Make sure though, that your books aren’t too high! To avoid a collision!

Here are some close-ups of my page.

Because the patterned paper I used for the Star Power background cut file was double sided, I could also use the leftover stars for my layout. I just turned them upside down and I had an extra embellishment!

This was my layout for the 17turtles blog today and I hope you like it! If you hop over to my blog, Creating {Non}sense}, I’ve got another 17turtles project to share using the new Love Stamps Cut File and here’s a sneak of it.

Layers & Groups | A Silhouette Tutorial

Hi! It’s Katrina from Paper Scissors & Glue, and I am so excited to be sharing my first DT project for the 17turtles blog. I am no stranger to Juliana’s 17turtles Digital Cut Files cut files and I am happy to get to show you how much fun you can have with them.

I have a scrapbook page for you today using the Mad for Plaid digital cut file.

Moments Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Mad For Plaid

At first glance, when you open the cut file in your software, it looks like a busy file. But there are a couple of tricks I used to help highlight my page, but also highlight the file and the ways you can use the file.

Silhouette Tutorial by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Mad For Plaid

First thing is to ungroup the file. You right click on the file and then select ungroup. I love the fact that Juliana colors the layers, so you can actually tell where they are and where they go by glancing at them. This was one thing I was so excited about when she first showed me her files.

Silhouette Tutorial by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Mad For Plaid

Did you know you can move layers from front to back? After opening the file, I wasn’t sure that I wanted that green layer on the top. I wanted to see the blue layer on the top. I am a visual person. Ungroup your layers, so you can move them freely and move them away from each other. This makes them easier to grab. I selected the blue layer and then right clicked. Then select “bring to front” . As you can see, this puts the blue layer on top of the green one and gives you an idea of what it will look like.

Silhouette Tutorial by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Mad For Plaid

I used basic white for the “green” layer, because I wanted that layer subtle. I just happened to like the dark blue for the blue layer! Then I started piecing my page together.

Moments Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Mad For Plaid

Another trick I did was to pop up the blue layer with foam adhesive. (Addicted to foam adhesive here!) This will give some dimension, which I love, and also gives you little areas you can highlight with embellishments.

Moments Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Mad For Plaid

That’s all I have for you today! I hope I gave you some ideas of playing around with your files in your software and finding different looks with them. Happy Groundhog Day!

Katrina
