Practical Scrappers Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop + Giveaway

Happy Friday and welcome to the Practical Scrappers Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop! You may have arrived here from Cathy Harper's blog, but if not, make sure you head over there to check out what she has to share with you today too.

The Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop is a group of scrappers who are using up their scrappy stash and sharing some inspiration along the way! Today, I'm sharing a scrapbook page that I created about my niece playing with her Rainbow Loom. I gave it to her for Christmas last year and then got her some more bands for Valentine's Day. She couldn't wait to start creating with the fun colors I gave her!

I dug into my stash and pulled out some papers, stickers, and die cuts from the American Crafts Shimelle Collection and some Studio Calico Chipboard Stars.

Of course, I couldn't resist throwing in some 17turtles Digital Cut Files too. I used the Everyday Paper Clips and Circles Within Circles to add a little texture and interest to the design.

I hand wrote my journaling on a piece of vellum and attached it to my layout by tucking it under the "Lovely" die cut.

And to help me bust even more of my stash, I'm having a
MYSTERY PRIZE PACKAGE GIVEAWAY!

Unfortunately, my uncle passed away last week and I had to fly home for the funeral. I decided to stay a while and spend some time with my family and my Mom during this tough time. Because of the unexpectedness of my trip, I was unable to take a photo of my prize.

So, if you are OK with winning a MYSTERY PRIZE PACKAGE, then leave me comment below and let me know who is your favorite scrapbooking manufacturer. You have until Monday, February 2 at 12 midnight EST to leave your comment. I will then pick one lucky person to win a fabulous mystery surprise package. And I promise, you will not be disappointed!

As I mentioned, if you just started on my blog, make sure you head back to Cathy's blog and then on to Charity Hotrum's! There is tons of inspiration on each and every blog and I know there are quite a few giveaways going on as well. Happy Hopping!

Leaky Shed Studio Guest | Playing With Chipboard

Hello friends! Just a quick post today to let you know that I'm guesting on the Leaky Shed Studio blog today with a winter scrapbook page that I created of our sweet Milo playing in the snow last Winter. I invite you to stop by the Leaky Shed Studio blog and check out the full layout. For now, here's a little peek to entice you!

Leaky Shed Studio Guest Design Post

On the layout above, I used the Snowflake Border Large. It is 11 inches long and was too big for my page, so I trimmed off one of the snowflakes and used it on another layout. Below you can see the other winter scrapbook page that I created using the "extra" snowflake along with theSix Snowflakes Set.

To embellish the snowflakes on this page, I painted them with white acrylic paint and then added BoBunny's Silver Glitter Paste. The glitter paste was perfect for adding a subtle touch of sparkle and shine to the snowflakes!

Thanks for stopping by today and don't forget to head over to the Leaky Shed Studio blog to see my other layout!

Winter Scrapbook Page Ideas with Digital Cut Files | Part 2

Happy Monday 17turtles Fans! As you might remember last week, I shared a winter scrapbook page using one of my new cut files called Snowflake Background. Today, I'm showing you how I used the scraps from that layout to create another winter layout.

Winter Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Snowflake Background

When I cut the Snowflake Background Cut File, I had positioned it in the center of the white cardstock. After removing the cut file, I was left with a really cool looking frame that I decided to use for another layout. I love how the "frame" really keeps the focus on the photo and gives the illusion of being out in the snow.

Before I attached the snowflake frame to the background paper, I splattered the paper with some white Dylusions Ink to mimic the look of falling snow. I then added some stickers, letter stickers, die cuts, machine stitching and stamps to the layout.

Winter Scrapbook Page Ideas with Digital Cut Files

There are some new digital cut files in the 17turtles Shop and I decided to create a layout using one of these new cut files called Snowflake Background. I have been treasuring several photos from last winter of our dear Milo and I knew this background would go perfectly with this photo of him sitting so pretty as the snow was falling!

Winter Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Snowflake Background

I cut the cut file using my Silhouette Cameo from white cardstock and placed it over a background that I created using watercolors and stamps. To keep the paper from warping, I applied a coat of clear Gesso to the front and back of the white cardstock. I learned this fun trick from my scrappy mixed media friend Tracey Sabella!

I also created this layout to play along with the January Scrap Our Stash Challenge. This Stash Challenge this month is to create a layout and include an item from your stash for each letter in the word T-W-I-N-E.  Here is what I used from my stash for each letter:
T = Twine
W = Watercolor
I = Ink
N = Number Stickers
E = Embellishments

Scrap Our Stash is a wonderful challenge site that is perfect for helping you use up your scrappy stash and if you play along this month, you could win a $20 GC to the 17turtles Shop! So why not play along right?!

Katrina Hunt 17turtles Design Team Member

Hi! I'm Katrina Hunt and I live in Midwest USA! I am currently owned by four Cardigan Welsh Corgis, who appear in my layouts from time to time (or A LOT of the time)! I’ve discovered as an adult that I love to create and craft. I was never the artsy type while growing up, unless you count cutting my doll’s hair. I have been scrapbooking since February 2009, when I decided to make a mini album for a friend. I discovered that I loved it! Well, let’s just say after that I went nuts with the paper, scissors, and glue. I love color, the more the better. To define my style is hard, as I do what makes me happy. I like to scrap everyday life and things, you never know what the subject of my project might be!

Monique Liedtke 17turtles Design Team Member

Hi, I’m Monique Liedtke and I live in The Netherlands with my husband, 3 kids (Manon 18, Timothy 15 and Mats 10) and our Cocker Spaniel, Jippie. I started scrapbooking about 11 years ago and am totally addicted, there’s nothing I’d rather do! I don’t have my own scrap room, but I guess you could say I claimed just about the whole house! I would love to spend every day scrapping from morning till night, especially as I’m so very fortunate to work (have worked) for some of my favorite manufacturers in the scrapbook industry: Doodlebug Design, Imaginisce, Pretty Little Studio, Ruby Rock-It, Epiphany Crafts and to be on the design teams of both Scrapbook Magazine UK as well as SG CREATE Magazine. But alas, that’s not possible and so I work part-time in a small HR office in town as well.

The reasons I love this fabulous hobby are that I preserve our memories, that I’ve made so many new friends and that it helps clearing my head in my busy and hectic life: when I scrap I forget everything and anything.

Suzanna Lee 17turtles Design Team Member

I am Suzanna Lee, wife to Michael and Mummy to Nikolas and Mia. These 3 are not only my life but the subjects of all things crafty. Scrapbooking is not only my creative outlet but a means to preserving my insanity (and memories)! Equally important to me is the photography. I spend as much time with my Nikon as I do at my scrappy desk. When not with my family or scrapbooking, I work part time as a Physical Therapist. Somebody has to support this addiction! I love what I do and love being able to use both sides of my brain equally! I am thrilled to be joining Juliana and 17Turtles for this FIRST term!

Cool Scrapbook Title Ideas with Digital Cut Files | Kim Watson Guest Designer

Hi crafty friends! My name is Kim Watson and I'm excited to be guesting for 17turtles Digital Cut Files today and had so much fun perusing through the 17 Turtles Etsy Shop. I couldn't resist the loose, hand-drawn, vibe of the 'Floral Bouquet', mixed with the 'This is Magic' and 'Clouds' cut files.

Beautiful Moments Scrapbook Page by Kim Watson Guest Designer for 17turtles Digital Cut Files

When working with the 17turtles cut files, I decided they were just asking to be collaged into a welded, conversation piece for my page. If you look closely, you will notice I used most of the words from 'This is Magic' word art, manipulating where I had to to make the sentence work.

I worked in some of the 'Floral Bouquet' flowers and leaves into the word art by welding them together.

I cut the simpler of the cloud designs from blue patterned paper & doodled around the edge for emphasis.

I finished off the page with some cute brag cards, wood veneer & other accents, resulting in a funky, modern page that my teen LOVES!

Saving Your Scraps & Getting The Most From Your Digital Cut Files

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to save my scraps and that I love to stretch my scrapbook products to the max! You just never know when you might need those scraps!

Today, I'm sharing two layouts that I made using an Elle's Studio Digital Cut File. One layout uses the die cut shapes and the other uses the left over scraps!

Saving Your Scraps & Getting The Most From Your Digital Cut Files - A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

If I'm trying to save paper, I will place all of the cut file images as close together as possible. I knew I had more winter/snow pictures to scrap so while I was getting ready to cut the snowflakes with my Silhouette Cameo, I thought it would be fun to strategically place them to create a fun design that could be used as a background on another page.

Snowflakes Saving Your Scraps and Getting the Most from your Digital Cut Files 17turtles

As you can see, in the layout on the left, I used the snowflakes as simple shapes to help embellish the snow theme of my page. I used the left over "scrap" to create a fun background image for my other layout.

The digital cut file that I used to create these layouts is the Elle's Studio November Digital Cut File for these layouts. As you can see though, any simple shape would work perfectly for this technique.

Elle's Studio November Digital Cut File

Here are the layouts close up so that you can see the details a little more. I stuck with a really simple color theme for both pages...white and blue. I think it really helped the photos pop and I love how it looks like the snow is really falling all around my husband!

For this page, I placed a darker colored blue paper behind the openings created by cutting out the snowflakes. It really helped to make the image pop, along with the addition of a few other embellishments that were similar in color.

Hockey Scrapbooking Page Ideas | Carolyn Wolff 17turtles Guest Designer

Hello everyone, it's Carolyn Wolff! I am so excited to be today's guest designer here for 17turtles Digital Cut Files. I have had the privilege of using Juliana's cut files in the past, but this time is a little special. I requested some hockey files (because I am a huge hockey fan) and had the opportunity to play with them. Thank you Juliana!!!!

I created 2 different hockey scrapbook pages and I am thrilled to share one here, on the 17turtles blog, and the other one, I will share on my blog. Here is one of my layouts!

Goal Hockey Scrapbook Page by Carolyn Wolff featuring 17turtles Digital Cut Files

I used a combination of the Hockey Goalie and the Hockey is Life 17turtles Digital Cut Files to create a large placemat for my background.

Hockey Is Life 17turtles Digital Cut Files Juliana Michaels

I added some stickers and twine to the large title.

I also added a sticker next to the large goalie silhouette.  I wanted to personalize my page a bit, so I cut out the number on the goalies jersey (from my photo) and added it to the background.

I embellished the background with some star rub-ons and some enamel dots.

I added some black ink to my background using a template, along with a metal tag, the star and some washi tape.

I am thrilled with the way my page turned out!  Using the files was a lot of fun. Thanks again to Juliana for creating these hockey files and for letting me design with them.

You can visit my blog to see the other layout I created using more of the hockey files that are shown above.

Thanks so much Carolyn! This is such a great masculine feeling sports page! I invite you to visit Carolyn's blog, for more inspiring paper crafting and scrapbook projects!
