Scrapping Our Stash February Blog Hop | Chevron Background Digital Cut File Included

Hello and welcome to the Scrapping Our Stash February Blog Hop! For those of you just joining along for this hop, The Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop is a group of scrappers who are trying to make a dent in their scrapbook supply stash. Hopefully you'll be inspired to scrap your stash as well after seeing all the great inspiration along the way! You can check out the full list of those participating this month below.

Today I'm sharing a layout I created using the Cocoa Vanilla Life Is Beautiful collection. Swoon indeed! It is seriously one of my faves and I've been hoarding it a little too much. Like hoarding it and not using it. I finally broke down and scrapped this photo of me and my niece together on her first communion. It was a beautiful day and one I can now always remember.

To create my background, I used the Chevron Background digital cut file. This is one of my own designs and I'm sharing it with you all today. You can download the Chevron Background Digital Cut File below.

I created this background cut file to be used as an overlay with a piece of patterned paper. I like how this cut file helps tone down the large bright pattern, but still allows you to see the beautiful floral design peeking through.

Here are some close ups of the embellishments I used and layered together to decorate my layout. Isn't that little bow adorable?

String Art Heart Valentine's Day Digital Cut File

Welcome back to Day 3 of my Valentine's Day Digital Cut File week! I hope you've had the opportunity to check out the Hugs and Kisses Cut File and the Valentine's Day Titles Cut File that I've already shared this week.

I really enjoy creating cut files and sharing them with everyone, but that hasn't always been the case. Last year when my 17turtles Etsy shop was open, that love for creating cut files started to die and I could feel it effecting my creativity. I will admit that most of this change came after I returned to work full time. I felt like I "had to" create and share them on a set schedule and that sort of pressure just didn't work for me. Scrapbooking and crafting should be fun, and I decided the only way I would get the fun back was to close the shop and return to doing them for free. Instantly a weight was lifted and I knew I had made the right decision. It's been wonderful to be able to enjoy the process again and I sure hope you all are enjoying using them as much as I'm enjoying creating and sharing them with you!

Today, I'm sharing a new cut file design called String Art Heart. You can download it below. This design was inspired by the recent trend of string art and of course some of the awesome Jillibean Soup Mix The Media String Art that I've help create this past year.

As I started on this layout, I began with the photo of Danny and Lincoln. I knew I wanted to create a design that would focus on the love that is shared between these two. That is when the string art heart idea occurred to me.

When I was first planning this layout, I was originally going to leave the die cut white and adhere it to my background paper. However, after looking at it a bit more, I decided it looked kind of plain and needed some more color. To create the solid heart image and to fill the negative space of the String Art Heart, I created a new cut file using my Silhouette software.

How to Fill The Negative Space of a Digital Cut File:

1.  Open the file in your Silhouette software, select the image, right click and select Release Compound Path.

2.  The image will look like this after you click Release Compound Path.

3.  With the entire image still selected, right click and click on Weld.

4.  This is what the image will look like after you have clicked Weld. You are now ready to cut out the large heart image to place behind the main String Art Heart design. Super easy peasy!

Another change I made, was the addition of the red floss. Originally, I didn't have the red floss on the heart. It was an after thought once the layout was nearly finished. Thank goodness for Un-du. Seriously, I couldn't scrap without the stuff!

Have A Lovely Day Spring Card | Simon Says Stamp

Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow on Groundhog Day, so I've decided to celebrate the arrival of an early spring. With joyous thoughts of warmer weather in mind, I'm sharing a new card I created that has a spring like feel. To create my card, I used the Lovely Spring stamp set and Lovely Day coordinating die set from Simon Says Stamp.

I created a simple watercolored background for the card from using a Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Pickled Raspberry. Next, I stamped the images onto the die cuts and adhered them to my card.

To help with the placement of the sentiment I used my new favorite stamping tool - my MISTI! This tool is a game changer when it comes to stamping. It gives you consistent and precise stamping every time using unmounted clear and rubber stamps. MISTI stands for Most Incredible Stamp Tool Invented and I have to agree, but don't just take my word for it. This tool was the Paper Craft Winner of the Hot Product Award at CHA in January. How awesome is that?!

Another wonderful tip I want to share with you is a recent discovery of mine. I have found my new favorite adhesive for sequins...Therm O Web Zots Bling. They are the perfect size for adhering sequins!

For the stamping on this card, I used two of the new Jillibean Soup clear stamp sets called Love Bug and Picture Perfect (XO). These are just two of the 12 stamp sets that coordinate with the Shape Shaker collection.

I stamped all of the images using Versamark Watermark Ink. I then sprinkled them with white embossing powder and heat set them using my heat gun. All of the coloring was done using Tim Holtz Distress Inks as water colors.

The little tag is one of the new Jillibean Soup Jewelry Tags. I stamped it the same as the other images and love how it shows up so well on the chalk paper.
