Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop + Giveaway

Happy Friday and welcome to the Practical Scrappers Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop! You may have arrived here from Christine's blog, but if not, make sure you head over there to check out what she has to share with you today too.

The Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop is a group of scrappers who are using up their scrappy stash and sharing some inspiration along the way! Today, I'm sharing a scrapbook page that I created about our new puppy Lincoln. My husband was so excited to teach him how to fetch that he had him outside with a ball on his second day home with us!

I used a mix of both old and new products to create my layout. For my stash busting, I used some products from Studio Calico, American Crafts Shimelle and Lawn Fawn - all goodies that I've been hoarding forever!

I also included some newer stuff from Fancy Pants and Jillibean Soup. I love when you can mix and match stuff from your stash!!!

And of course, I used a couple 17turtles Cut Files including Cosmic Swirl and Let's Play.

Happy Hopping!

So Happy Because Of A Puppy Named Lincoln

Hello scrappy friends! Today I'm sharing a fun layout that I created using the Simple Stories Life Documented Scrapbook collection that I recently ordered from Paper Issues. This was my first time to purchase and play with Simple Stories products and I'm in love! Quite honestly, I have no idea why I've never used their products before, but better late than never I guess! LOL!  I'm  also sharing a quick and easy technique on how to fill the negative space of a large cut file image.

Life Documented was perfect to scrap this photo of Danny with Lincoln as a puppy. This page really captures the true happiness he had in bringing our Lincoln home.

So Happy Puppy Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Heartfelt Background and Simple Stories

I used the 17turtles Digital Cut File Heartfelt Background as my background. I cut it from white cardstock. To fill the negative space of the cut file, I used a quick and simple technique that I'm sharing with you below.

Releasing A Compound Path | Filling Negative Space With Patterned Paper
Begin by opening the image in Silhouette.

Releasing a compound path on a digital cut file to be able to fill the negative space with patterned paper.

Select the entire image and right click on it. Select Release Compound Path.

Releasing a compound path on a digital cut file to be able to fill the negative space with patterned paper.

As you can see, everything fills with black. Select the entire image again, right click and select Weld. This will join all of the sections together.

Welding an image after releasing the compound path of the digital cut file to be able to fill the negative space with patterned paper.

Now the image is one large piece and ready to cut with your choice of patterned paper.

Here are a few close ups of my page. To dress up the white background paper, I added some ink splatters using my fave Heidi Swapp Colorshine Mist.

I also dressed up a piece of Dusty Attic chipboard (the arrow) that I've had in my stash forever, with some gold embossing powder.

Hi Love Library Pockets

Hey there 17turtles fans! Suzanna here today to share with you another layout. Today's layout uses the Hi Love Library Pockets Digital Cut File. This file is so versatile and can be used for a variety of themes.

Love Scrapbook Page by Suzanna Lee featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Hi Love Library Pocket

17turtle files arrive with layers that are colored, making it convenient for you to move them and re-size them as needed. Orginally, the "love" and "xoxo" were words that came layered on top of other files. I removed the bottom layers enabling me to cut out the words alone.

Love Scrapbook Page by Suzanna Lee featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Hi Love Library Pocket

The "hi" pocket can be cut one of two ways; either using the "hi" with the same cut as the pocket, as I did, or you can remove the word from your first cut, thus just leaving you a pocket, then cut "hi" from another patterned paper which you would then glue on top of the constructed pocket. As the reverse side of my patterned paper didn't coordinate with my layout, I backed the hole, or negative space, with a complimentary patterned paper before constructing the pocket.

Free Cut File Friday | Numbers Fest

I have some happy news to share with you today! It's time for FREE Cut File Friday! I know I haven't shared a free cut file in ages, but I can promise you this they will be returning very, very soon!

The Yawn Puppy Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring Jillibean Soup and 17turtles Free Cut File Numbers Fest

Today I'm sharing a new file I created that is all about the numbers! This series of photos of our puppy Lincoln yawning and getting ready for a nap inspired me to create this cut file. It's hard to believe he was so tiny and that he could fit under the chairs! He can't even dream of doing this now at 10 months old and nearly 68 lbs!

FREE DIGITAL CUT FILE | NUMBERS FEST

This free cut file can be used for a full range of projects, including cards, home decor, scrapbook pages and more. This digital file is available in SVG, PNG, DXF and Studio formats and you may download this digital cut file for FREE for your own personal use. Please refer to my terms of use for more information if you wish to use these for more than your own personal projects.

Numbers Fest Free Digital Cut File by Juliana Michaels 17turtles.com

I originally created this file to be used as a background image for a 12x12 scrapbook page, but of course, you can do so much more with it! I hope you enjoy using this fun new free cut file on your projects and I would absolutely love to see what you create with them!

To create this layout, I used patterned paper from Jillibean Soup and a simple black cardstock as the background. I then matted my photos horizontally on off white cardstock and added a few stickers and the chipboard letters to create my title. Overall, this is a very simple layout, but I just love the simplicity allows the focus to remain on the photos of my sweet little Lincoln!

Jillibean Soup | Family In Bloom

I'm back today sharing another layout that I created for Jillibean Soup using their new Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup collection. I have had these photos of Danny and his family when everyone got together to celebrate his Mom's birthday for nearly 2 years and I have been waiting for the right stuff to use with them. As soon as I saw the Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup collection, I knew I had finally found exactly what I was looking for and the colors matched perfectly!

Family Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring Jillibean Soup Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup

I began with a simple black cardstock background as the base for my page. I wanted to use all three photos on the same page and so I decided to position them in a vertical column down the center of the page. I then layered strips of patterned paper on each side of the photos and then tucked in some of the white photo frames.

Family Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring Jillibean Soup Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup

The wire word "family" was of course perfect for the title and I was super brave and stitched over it with my sewing machine.

The final touch was to layer some of the Pea Pod die cuts and add some more machine stitching. The layout has a rather bold look to it, but I really like how the black seems to make the photos pop!

Jillibean Soup | You Are My Sunshine

April is flying by and before it gets totally away from me, I wanted to share one of the recent layout I created for Jillibean Soup using their new Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup collection.  As soon as I saw the die cut that I used for my title - You Are My Sunshine - I knew I wanted to scrap this photo of Danny. His silly and goofy sense of humor is one of the things I love so very much about him and it brings so much sunshine to my life!

You Are My Sunshine Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring Jillibean Soup Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup

The title piece of course, called for me to continue the "sunshine" theme and to do this I created a sunshine for the background. I cut "rays" from two of the papers from the  Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup collection and then stitched them to the white cardstock with my sewing machine. I then positioned the photo of Danny as the center of the sun.

You Are My Sunshine Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels featuring Jillibean Soup Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup

To help keep the focus on my photo, I layered two darker pieces of patterned paper behind the photo. Next, I layered some die cuts, tags and stickers and then further embellished it with some wood veneers and the little cork heart.

I have one more layout and a card that I also created for Jillibean Soup that I will be sharing soon, so stay tuned!

I Am | 17turtles Cut Files

Hi everyone! It’s the second Monday of the month and that means I get to share my 17turtles project with you! It’s Monique Liedtke with a fun layout using the 17turtles Digital Cut Files called Everyday Circle Clips.

I really love the trend where you use a large cut file and adhere all kinds of different patterned papers behind. So that’s what I did for today’s project!

I Am Scrapbook Page by Monique Liedtke featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Everyday Circle Clips

I chose one of the four cut files from the Everyday Circle Clips, the one with the camera, and enlarged it to almost 12x12 size.

17turtles Digital Cut File Everyday Circle Clip

I cut it out of a sheet of smooth white cardstock and used a black pen to trace the camera to emphasize it a bit more. I glued different papers from the Simple Stories I Am collection behind it and use one small(ish) photo which I positioned on the left side of the camera. Next I embellished around it.

Creating with Background Cut Files

Happy Monday! It’s Katrina sharing a page with one of the newer background files in the 17turtles Etsy shop, Heartfelt Background. As soon as I saw this file, I knew it was going to be my next project.

Fuzzy Foot Dog Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Heartfelt Background

I love background files that you can back certain areas of and can give them a different feel than what you would originally think of using them for. When I first started this layout I was going to use the pink paper for the cut file, but then decided that I liked the contrast and pop of the black polka dot paper.

Fuzzy Foot Dog Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Heartfelt Background

I love that with this file it is super easy to use different papers to back and add a twist, instead of backing with all one paper. I love paper and patterns, so I love adding more if I can!

Fuzzy Foot Dog Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Heartfelt Background

I didn’t add a lot to this page, because I felt like the background was the perfect touch and I didn’t want to hide too much of it. I did add the journaling area and then the embellishment area below. Both of the areas were just to highlight my photo.

Paper Issues Eggs-cellent Add-Venture Linky Party | Easter Peep Cake Scrapbook Page

So, have you played along yet with the latest issue at Paper Issues? On Monday, I shared the exciting news that 17turtles is the sponsor for this issue. The current issue is called Eggs-cellent Add-ventures and I invite you to head over to the Paper Issues blog to get all of the details about it.

Of course, I had to play along, so I created a Easter themed layout using one of the new cut files that I created for this issue called Happy Hoppy Easter. Last Easter, I was inspired to create a Easter Basket Peep Cake for our family Easter dinner after seeing one on Pinterest. I love all things Peeps, so no one was surprised that I made it! And of course, it was quite yummy!

As you can see, I used the trio of bunnies from the Happy Hoppy Easter cut file. I cut them from cardstock in colors that matched the Peeps and then adhered them to my layout.

CUSTOM SPRAY INK COLORS

You might have noticed some ink splatters on my layout.  When I began to select the colors I wanted to use, I realized that all of my colors were too bold and bright. I needed something more pastel to better coordinate with the papers I was using. My dear friend Tracey (who was over at my house scrapping for the day) suggested that I mix the colors with white. It worked perfectly!

I used a paint mixing tray. I poured in some of the white ink and then added a drop or two of color. I then the colors to mix them together. The white toned the bright colors down and gave me the perfect pastel colors that I was looking for!

Create your own custom color spray ink by mixing colors. Pastel colors created by mixing Dylusions White Linen Ink Spray with other Dylusions colors and Heidi Swapp Color Shine Spray Ink.
