How Scrapbook.com Simple Scrapbooks Inspired Me To Start Scrapbooking Again

Those of you that are new here may or may not know that I actually first developed the paper crafting bug when I was introduced to scrapbooking way back in 1997. I continued scrapbooking for many years, but in 2016 I really started to lose my love of it so I just stopped and switched over to making cards and coloring. It was a great change and one I really loved. Then in 2019 I slowly began playing around more with mixed media and I then fell in love with all things Tim Holtz!

I realize, many of you here know the Tim Holtz side of me, so I hope you can appreciate my need to mix things up here and there and that I really just love to share what I enjoy creating. Don't worry, I'm definitely still in love with all things Tim Holtz, and most of what you see here will continue to be of that style, but I wanted to share how Scrapbook.com Simple Scrapbooks inspired me to start scrapbooking again.

Last year, as was the case for many of us, was a time of reflection, introspection, change and growth. I also began to get the itch for scrapbooking again but I knew I needed it be different than the last time. I was no longer interested in large 12x12 layouts with lots of patterned paper and embellishments. I wanted something simple and pocket pages seemed the way to go. I had never really done them before, so working with pockets was a bit of a learning curve for me in how to organize and lay out out my pages. However, with the help of the Scrapbook.com Simple Scrapbook Pocket Cards I have found a groove and fallen in love with the format. I decided to stick with a much smaller size and I'm currently working in the 6x8 albums. It's just enough room for me to include a few photos, but most importantly room for my journaling and the story behind the photos. This was never my strong suit, as I really just liked playing with the paper and embellishments, but this time around I needed the focus to be different.

On the pages I'm sharing today I used the Scrapbook.com Simple Scrapbooks Adventure Calls Cards and I combined it with various embellishments from Pinkfresh Studio Some Days collection.

Once I realized I was going to stick with the pocket scrapbook style, I purchased a Canon Selphy. I love the flexibility it gives me for printing on demand, but I don't care for the fact that the pictures aren't truly 4x6 or that you can't fit two 3x4 photos on one piece of photo paper. So I just focus on the convenience and deal with the size by matting the photos to get the size I want. Sometimes I add a piece of white cardstock, but other times I can just adhere them to the backside of the pocket card they are sharing a pocket with.

Along with the printing and pocket cards, I've slowly expanded my supplies to include some traditional scrapbook supplies such as stickers, die cuts and patterned paper. I especially love the 6x6 or 6x8 paper pads since they can be cut down to fit the pockets and allow me to create my own custom cards. With all the additional supplies I was slowly realizing I didn't have a great way to store all my new goodies.

Thankfully Scrapbook.com has created the Craft Room Basics Stadium Organizer and the Pocket Cards Organizer. These organizers make it really convenient to keep all my supplies together and I can easily bring these over to my craft table when I'm ready to work on my scrapbook pages.

They also have tabbed dividers that are sized to help further organize 4x6 and 3x4 pocket cards and they come in sets of white, warms and cools. These packs of dividers come with labels, however I'm still so new with this, that I'm not quite ready to divide them by theme or anything so for now I haven't labeled anything and I'm just using them to divide the different sets I currently have in my stash.

I hope you enjoyed this peak into how Scrapbooks.com Simple Scrapbooks inspired me to start scrapbooking again along with the current process and set up I'm using.

A Rose Is A Rose Digital Cut File and Scrapbook Page

Hello Digital Cut File fans! I'm back with a new cut file I created called A Rose Is A Rose. I used it to help me document these photos of my niece as she celebrated her First Holy Communion. As I was thinking of how to embellish this page and add to the story, the first thing that came to mind were flowers. Flowers seem to make everything a little extra special!

This free cut file can be used with a variety of electronic digital cutting machines to create a full range of projects, including cards, home decor, scrapbook pages and more. The only limit to what you can create using this cut file is your own imagination. This digital file is available in SVG, PNG, DXF and Studio formats and you may download this digital cut file for your own personal use. If you have questions, concerns or comments about my cut files, please leave me a message in the comment section or contact me on Facebook.

I also combined this cut file with the Make A Wreath Cut File. The circle shape from that set helped to ground the photos and the flowers as well as draw your eye into the center of the layout.

If you are looking for more special day scrapbook page ideas, check out another First Communion scrapbook page I made using the Rose Cluster Cut File. These cut files happen to coordinate with each other and I think they would be perfect for a double page layout. Don't you?

Fun Times Scrapbook Page and Digital Cut File

Hello all! Did you all wonder what happened to me? It's been a few weeks since I posted here with any new projects. I've just been busy with everyday life, including a recent trip to visit my family in Missouri and Kentucky. It's amazing how quickly time can pass you by, but at the same time, it's good to focus on family!

As a welcome back post, I thought I'd share a recent layout I created and a new digital cut file I created called Fun Times. This set contains a combo of words that can be mixed and matched for a few different titles, along with the fun wave design I used to create my background. I love how the waves add to the fishing theme of my photo and I think it would be great to use for a variety of water related scrapbook pages such as swimming, or enjoying the beach/lake, or even a water park.

By cutting the waves from several different blue patterned papers, I was able to create a sense of flow across the page. It also let me dig into my stash of papers and get quite a few different patterns on one page without overwhelming the photo.

Hashtag Love Digital Cut File | Happy National Scrapbook Day 2016

Happy InterNational Scrapbook Day everyone! There are so many great NSD activities going on today and this weekend. I sure hope you've found something fun to do today as we celebrate this day that is so special to us scrappers. To add to your fun, I am sharing a new digital cut file called Hashtag Love. It contains 12 cut files including some fun words, titles and shapes.

I used the Hashtag Love cut file to create a layout about Lincoln and how much he loves to snuggle - especially when you are on the couch. He continues to snuggle even now at nearly 75 pounds.

To create a fun accent piece on my layout, I cut out the XO heart and I used the same technique to back the design as I shared on my This Is All That Matters layout using the Butterfly Frenzy cut file that I created for Creative Scrappers.

I also included the fun little heart and XO strips as little accents as well and added a bit of machine stitching to give it some added interest.

The overall design is a standard color block pattern. I love this type of design and how it lets you use a variety of patterned papers on one page. On this layout I used 7 different patterns and from 4 different Jillibean Soup collections - Mushroom Medley, Sew Sweet, Fur Fusion and Soup Staples II. You gotta love using your stash! I also used one of the new Wood Words and Adhesive Sequins.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and Happy Scrapping.

Butterfly Frenzy Digital Cut File Tutorial and Scrapbook Layout

Hello all and Happy Day Before InterNational Scrapbook Day! Today I'm sharing a layout I created with a new digital cut file I created especially for Creative Scrappers called Butterfly Frenzy. Creative Scrappers is a fabulous scrapbook sketch and inspiration site founded and coordinated by Kristine Davidson. I have been a fan of her sketches for a long time and I was even a sketch designer for her design team in the past. I recently learned that she was starting her site back up and I'm really looking forward to all the great sketches and inspiration that will be coming in the very near future. To help Creative Scrappers celebrate InterNational Scrapbook Day, I created the Butterfly Frenzy Digital Cut File. Below you will find a link to download the file for free.

Now, read on for a tutorial on backing die cuts with patterned paper using the Butterfly Frenzy cut file.

As you can see, I backed some of the butterflies with a variety of patterned papers. I love this look and it's a great way to dig into your paper stash.

Backing Die Cuts Tutorial

First cut the Butterfly Frenzy image from your desired piece of paper. Remove it from the cutting mat and lay to the side. I used simple white cardstock. Now it's time to have some fun and decide which papers to use to fill the openings.

I don't know about you, but I'm a very visual person, so it really helps for me to see what I'm thinking about doing before I cut into my papers. To help me decide which papers to use, I used the following technique:
1. Open the Butterfly Frenzy Cut File in the Silhouette software.
2. Right click on the image and select Release Compound Path.
(You will notice a couple of sections that are filled that that you might not want filled in. These won't impact the final cut design, but if you want to remove them here is what to do: Select those sections and the piece that is the background together, right click and then select Make Compound Path. Some of the butterflies may disappear, but they are just behind this piece. Select the image you just made, right click and select Move to Back and all the butterflies will reappear.)
3. Open the Fill Color Window or the Fill Pattern Window.
4. Select each butterfly and fill it with a color or pattern similar to the papers you are thinking about using.

Feel free to play around with the colors and patterns until you like the position of them. I used patterns and color similar to ones I thought I wanted to use that are from Elle's Studio Little Moments collection.

5. Once you are happy with the colors/patterns and their positions, group each of the colors/patterns together.  Move one group of colors onto the Silhouette cutting area. Place the other groups off of the cutting area.

6. Select the group, right click and select Offset from the drop down menu. The Offset Window will open.

7. With the objects still selected, click on Offset. Set the distance to 0.1 Round. Click on Apply.

8. Select the images and their offset, right click and select Weld. This will make each butterfly just slight larger and the perfect size for backing each of the openings.

9. Send the images through the Silhouette and cut them out of your desired paper.
10. Repeat steps 6 - 9 with each group of colors/patterns.

This is the back side of the cut file with the offset images in place. As you can see, the offset images perfectly fit to fill the openings. I know a lot of people hand cut their papers to fill the openings, but to me, this process is much faster and easier.

Here is a view of the cut file from the front. I really do love how the butterflies look filled with the different papers. I even decided to leave some of the butterflies empty and let the background paper show through.
