Flourishes with a Punch

Today I am going to share with you a quick tutorial on how I created a bunch of swirls and flourishes from one simple punch.  Keep reading for all the details, but first up I must say...I fear I am moving to the land of snow & ice! At least compared to anywhere I have ever lived!!! If you currently have some of this wonderful stuff on the ground, grab your camera, take some photos and then scrap them with the gorgeous Powder Mountain collection by Bo Bunny.  It is the perfect collection for capturing these memories & special moments or for some creative play.  The play part is what I wanted to do after seeing this adorable photo taken by our dear friend Tom McInerney. He is an an amazing photographer and has a gorgeous Samoyed name Mia. He recently took a photo of her out in the snow with a life size snow dog that he made. I tell you he is so clever & creative! Anyway, as soon as I saw the photo I begged for a copy so that I could scrap it with this collection.  Here is the layout I created! I had a great time playing with this collection as well as having fun misting and stamping.  I used some of my new Heidi Swapp Color Shine to lightly mist the background and then I stamped on the back ground using some of the Powder Mountain snowflake stamps with Ranger Distress Ink.

The snowflakes are leftover from when I created my Let It Snow layout for Bella Blvd that you can see HERE.

The fun technique I want to share with you is how I used a border punch to create the red swirls/flourishes that you see placed on the layout.  All of them were created using one punch: the Rose Bush 2 in 1 Edger punch by EK success.

Punch two 12 inch strips from cardstock using the chain punch setting.

To create the strip under my photo, trim one end like this on one of the strips.

Then trim the other end like this.

After trimming each end this is the piece you will end up with. See the nice curved edges!

To create the other random flourishes trim various sections of the other strip like this.

Cut the pieces to "free" the swirls that are connected to each other.

Look closely..I have trimmed two swirls free!!!

Here are all the different swirls & flourished that I created from just one strip of cardstock!!!  I placed these at various locations on the layout to help create a visual triangle.

Supplies:
Patterned Paper, Stickers, Letter Stickers, Noteworthy, Stamps, Brads: Powder Mountain by Bo Bunny
Ink: Ranger Distress Ink
Mist: Heidi Swapp
Cardstock: American Crafts
Glitter: Tim Holtz

I hope you enjoyed today's blog post and mini tutorial!
