Using Die Cut Papers On Scrapbook Pages

Sometimes it's just fun to play with your stash! With my various design team commitments, it can be difficult for me to find time to do this. Over the past several months, I have been getting together with a friend, who lives close to me, to scrapbook. We try to meet about once a month and I have been trying to make that a day of scrapping non-design team things. A day to play with my stash and just have fun!!!

The scrapbook page I am sharing with you today, using die cut papers and products from the Pink Paislee Hey Kid and My Mind'e Eye Cut and Paste collection, is one of the pages I created during one of the "just for fun" scrapbook days.

I started with the Hey Kid Red Rover Die Cut Paper. I loved the paper, but I wanted to do something different with it, so I fussy cut around the center grouped circles and trimmed off the top and bottom border strips. Next, I cut some of the designs from inside some of the circles using a craft knife. Next, I positioned my "new" die cut piece and the border strips onto a piece of patterned paper from the My Mind'e Eye Cut and Paste collection. I then filled some of the new circle openings with pieces from the Hey Kid Ephemera pack.

It is a subtle change really, but I had fun "playing" with paper because of the fussy cutting and layering. The final steps to completing the layout were to add my photo, embellishments, title and journaling.

INSPIRATION | THE CLOTHING & THE ACTIVITY

The lime green color of my favorite fleece inspired the color palette and I was drawn to using Echo Parks Here & Now collection, along with some Heidi Swapp Serendipity patterned papers. The activity of going flying with my Dad inspired the elements I choose to document this awesome event. It was a fun experience for two reasons. One, I love to fly, no matter what size the plane. And two, I got to fly with my Dad! How cool is that?!

Happy Hello Layout | My Mind's Eye

This is my fourth and final layout that I created for my October Guest Designer post for My Mind's Eye. This was truly a wonderful experience and I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity to guest design with them. I want to send out a special THANK YOU to Stephanie Howell for asking me to do this!!! I also want to THANK everyone who has left sweet comments on my blog, my Facebook page and on the My Mind's Eye blog!  It means so very much!!!

Now to my Hello Happy layout! I took this photo of my nieces standing outside the American Girl Place on their very first visit to the store. It was so cute how excited they were to just look in the window and see their dream doll, McKenna. When, I went to scrap this photo, I knew that the Cut and Paste Adorbs line with all the pink and bright colors was a perfect fit to capture this special and happy day for my two nieces.

Feelin' Carefree Layout and FREE Digital Cut File | My Mind's Eye

I'm back as promised, with my third My Mind's Eye October Guest Designer layout and FREE digital cutting file!!! I know that winter is coming for those of us in the northern hemisphere, but I am still going to enjoy summer and warm weather as long as I can. Even if it is just while scrapping my summer vacation photos! This layout, Feelin' Carefree, features a photo from our vacation this summer to Mexico and uses the My Mind's Eye Cut and Paste Charm collection.

INSPIRATION | Summer Sun

I was inspired to use the sun die cut and then carry it over onto the layout with the My Mind's Eye Decorative Tape to help remind us just how hot it was the day we went deep sea fishing! In fact, there wasn't a cloud in the sky, but I couldn't resist using that cute cloud patterned paper and stickers as part of my design.

Always Be The Best You Layout | My Mind's Eye

I was up on the My Mind's Eye blog this week with my October Guest Designer posts! Today I am sharing my second of the four layouts I created using their new Cut and Paste collection.

INSPIRATION | My Minds' Eye Journaling Card

This layout, Always Be the Best You, all started with the "Be" journaling card. I knew it would be the perfect title for this photo of my niece. The layout came together so easily using the Cut and Paste Adorbs collection! Even though my niece is wearing purple I felt like the blues and pinks in this collection coordinated well and helped to keep the focus on her!

I also added to the title with a digital cut file I created in Adobe Illustrator using my own handwriting. Once I cut it out with my Silhouette, I wrote over it using a white gel pen to help it stand out a little more.

How Sweet It Is Layout and FREE Digital Cut File | My Mind's Eye

How sweet it is indeed, that I was given the amazing opportunity to be the October Guest Designer for My Mind's Eye!!! It still feels like I'm dreaming!!!

As I mentioned yesterday, I am now going to begin sharing the four layouts I created using the awesome Cut and Paste collection. This was one of my Summer 2013 CHA favorites, so I was beyond thrilled to get to work with it for my guest designer projects!

INSPIRATION | Houndstooth

This is a photo from our summer vacation to Mexico...our traditional vacation "selfie". Since we first started dating, we have been taking self portrait of ourselves when we go on vacation or take a trip. It's just one of those things we do! I was inspired to create the houndstooth die cut background from the Cut & Paste Charm Bliss "Jovial" paper. After I cut the background piece, I then cut some extra houndstooth shapes from the 6x6 Paper Pad and attached them here and there with double sided foam tape. I then had fun creating a vertical border using a combination of chipboard, buttons and enamel dots.

Halloween Altered Frames and a Scary Spooky Halloween Banner | My Mind's Eye

I have such exciting news to share today!!! I was up on the My Mind's Eye blog yesterday and again today with my Guest Designer post! Several months back they contacted me and asked me to be the My Minds' Eye October Guest Designer. Of course I said YES while jumping up and down and totally doing the happy dance!!! I have loved My Mind's Eye for as long as I can remember, so this opportunity felt like a dream come true!!!

Since I absolutely LOVE Halloween, I HAD to create a couple projects using their Happy Haunting collection to help decorate my home for our upcoming Halloween party! I absolutely love the mix of chalkboard and orange glitter that is used throughout this line!!! Besides these Halloween projects, I also created four layouts using the Cut and Paste collection. I will be posting each of those layouts separately starting tomorrow and over the next few days after, so that I can share more details on how I created each project. I will also have some FREE cut files for you to download, so stayed tuned for that to begin tomorrow!!!

This first project is a set of Halloween Altered Frames. I used an assortment of 4x6 photos frames that I already had. Some of them were already black, but the ones that weren't I gave a coat of black spray paint before I began to decorate them with the paper and embellishments from the Happy Hauntings collection. The images inside the frames were cut from the "Cards" patterned paper. I then added the stickers, chipboard and other embellishments to further decorate the frames.

Other:

Now for my second project, a Scary Spooky Halloween Banner! I created this banner, by cutting out the letters from the "Spooky" 12 x 12 patterned paper and from the same print in the 6x6 Paper Pad.

The tiny bats that I used to embellish some of the letters are fussy cut from the back side of the "Word Art" Paper in the 6x6 Paper Pad.  If you look closely you can see that I stamped the images from the Happy Haunting Decorative Stamps with both grey and black ink on the "Spooky" Paper before I attached the other layers.

I layered the different pieces together with materials varying in height to help give it more dimension. Some of the things I used were chipboard, cardboard and double sided foam tape.

Pie Chart Love | Free Cut File

It's been awhile since I shared a free cut file, so I thought today might be a good day to do so. I originally created this Pie Chart Love cutting file for the Oklahoma Online Benefit Crop back in May to benefit the victims of the tornadoes.  I have since added to the cut file and created two versions of it. I used the outline version of it on the layout I am sharing today.

Sometimes it is wonderful to scrap everyday photos. In fact, I took this one with my camera phone. I was at one point trying to take a photo every day, but I have since fallen off that wagon. I started missing days this summer and when I was on vacation I didn't even have my phone turned on. Maybe, I'll start it back up again though. Who knows...

The one on the right will cut a more solid, stencil shape.
