Halloween Party Invitation + Party Favor | Newton's Nook Designs

Hello friends! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and every year we have a costume party. I'm already in the process of getting ready for this year's party by decorating the house and working on my costume! As part of my party planning, I created this Halloween Party Invitation which will be perfect for letting them know about this year's party. I also created a fun little Halloween Party Favor that is sure to be gobbled up by everyone!

Halloween Party Invitation

To create the Halloween Party Invitation and Party Favor, I used Newton's Nook Designs Creepy Cameo Stamp Set, Creepy Cameo Coordinating Die Set and Cameo Frame Die. To begin, I die cut the Cameo Frame from both black and white cardstock. For this project, I only used the white inside oval and stamped the sentiments on them with black ink. The outside of the white frames will be saved for a future use.

Next, I stamped the skeleton cameos onto the black oval and heat embossed them with white embossing powder. I then used the Creepy Cameo Die to cut out the orange and green layers.

After all the stamping and die cutting was complete, I adhered all the layers together to create the cameos. I then adhered the three of them to the purple cardstock card base. I really love how they pop against the purple.

Halloween Party Favor

To create the Party Favor, I took the other frame and punched a hole in the top of it. I then tied it around the top of a jar filled with candy corn using black and white baker's twine. Both the Halloween invitation and party favor were rather quick to put together and made it easy to mass produce. Which is always a good thing when you know you are making more than one of something!

Wood Plank Christmas Nativity Decoration

This easy to make Wood Plank Christmas Nativity Decoration is perfect to use for decorating your own home or giving as a gift!

Lately, I've been getting more into the farmhouse decor trend and this year some of my Christmas decorations and craft projects are taking on this style. With Christmas coming soon, I've been crafting up a storm creating gifts for my family and friends. One of the projects I recently created for some of my crafty friends is this Wood Plank Christmas Nativity Decoration.

Wood Plank Christmas Nativity Decoration Supplies:

Wood Plank 6x6 - Jillibean Soup Mix the Media

Galvanized Nativity Ornament - JoAnn's

Garland - Michaels

Red Berries - Michaels

Gingham Ribbon

Wire Cutters

Hot Glue Gun

If you are unable to locate the Nativity ornament I used, feel free to substitute it with any Christmas themed die cut shape made from metal or wood. You could paint the wood with metallic paint. Another option would be to use a die cut or an electronic cutting machine, such as a Silhouette Cameo, to cut out a Nativity from chipboard or paper.

Begin by making a wreath from the garland, using wire cutters to cut it. Size it so the Galvanized Nativity Ornament, or whatever piece you use, fits on top of it and touches the wreath in 2-3 places. Use a hot glue gun to attach the ornament to the wreath.

Cut a length of ribbon, tie it in a bow and hot glue it to the top of the ornament.

Use wire cutters to cut the berry stems in half. Take three of them, twist the ends together and add a dab of hot glue close toward the berries to help hold them together. Try to keep the stems short. Create five groups of berries.

Adhere the berries to the wreath using hot glue. Once the wreath is complete, hot glue it to the wood plank.

I really love how this gift turned out and so did my friends.

The wood plank and galvanized metal really add to the farmhouse style of it.

Of course, after I made them for my friends, I couldn't resist, but to make one for myself as well.

Dollar Tree Halloween Wreath

Happy Halloween friends! Even though today is Halloween, I still wanted to share with you a Halloween wreath I made using some fun finds from my local Dollar Tree. I figured it's better late than never when it comes to sharing some of the crafty projects I created this year for our Halloween party. I know you won't have time to create one this year, but you can always Pin it and save them for next year!

Dollar Tree Halloween Deco Mesh Wreath by Juliana Michaels

I started with a wire wreath form from my stash. This one is 18 inches. I then followed this great tutorial on how to make a Deco Mesh wreath form. The rest of the supplies came from Dollar Tree, with the exception of some small plastic glitter spiders I found at Party City.

Dollar Tree Halloween Wreath Supplies:
3 Rolls Mesh - 2 purple, 1 black
2 Black Halloween Garland
2 Rolls of Ribbon
2 Stems Black Roses
Spider Web
Orange Glitter Spider
Plastic Skeletons
Orange Sparkly Pipe Cleaners

Following the tutorial, I attached the 3 rolls of Deco Mesh using the orange sparkly pipe cleaners. I was ok with the sparkly orange showing, but if you don't want them to be seen, then you might want to use black pipe cleaners.

Next, I tool the 2 Black Halloween Garlands and removed all the jack o'lanterns. They are twist tied to the garland and I kept them for a possible future project. I hate to waste anything! I then weaved both of these in between the mesh to fill in the wreath even more.

Now it's time to add the ribbons. I wrapped them, one at a time, around the wreath and used the pipe cleaners to tie them in place on the back side of the wreath.

Once the base was completed, I began to decorate the wreath. I used some black twist ties to attach the skeletons. The roses are held in place using some of the orange pipe cleaners. I used a hot glue gun to attach the small plastic spiders.

The large spider web in the center of the wreath originally came with a glow in the dark spider, but I removed it and replaced it with the orange glitter spider. I then attached it to the wreath using the pipe cleaners.

After all my goodies were attached, I took the remaining orange pipe cleaners and wrapped them around a coloring marker to create a coil. I then attached these to the wreath to add a little more bling.

You might have noticed the "Witch Is In" sign in the supply picture above. I had originally planned to use that on the wreath, however as I started putting it all together, I decided to go with the spider web and glitter spider in the center.

Halloween Papermache Tombstone Centerpiece

Long time, no post. Well, I have an excuse. I've been a tad busy the past few weeks getting ready for our annual Halloween party, which was this past weekend. I love Halloween and I love decorating for Halloween. And as you know, I also love to create stuff, so I usually end up making a lot of my decorations for the party. Every year I seem to create and add a few more things. This year I decided to create a center piece for our island. While looking for ideas, I came across this set of paper mache tombstones at my local craft store and knew they would be the perfect thing.

I began by covering each of them with tissue paper. I wrinkled it up really good and then glued it to each one using a foam brush and matte medium. Some other options would be Mod Podge or even watered down Elmer's Glue. You want to use some sort clear drying liquid adhesive that spreads easily.

To give the tombstones some character, I went through my stash of chipboard, wood shapes and Halloween crafting supplies. I found some wood crosses, chipboard letter stickers, decorative chipboard flourishes, a decorative wood applique, a plastic skeleton and some wood molding. As I was laying out what I wanted on each tombstone, I realized I needed something more, so I cut out the large RIP from chipboard using my Silhouette Cameo. I cut 2 of each letter and glued them together to give it more dimension.

Once the glued on tissue paper had dried, I adhered the various pieces of chipboard, wood and plastic from my stash using Therm O Web's Mixed Media Liquid Adhesive.

The next step was to paint each of the tombstones with gray acrylic paint. Once this was completely dry, I dry brushed black acrylic paint onto each piece to help bring out the details. If you aren't familiar with dry brushing, here are some pointers:

Make sure to use a stiff and dry brush.
Dip your brush into the paint, but try not to get a lot of paint onto the brush.
Wipe the paintbrush onto a piece of scrap paper or some other surface to remove more of the paint.
Lightly wipe the brush onto your surface to apply the paint.

You basically end up with hardly any paint on the brush. This is what you are going for. This allows you to bring out the detail and texture in the pieces you are dry brushing. And, you can always add more if you want it a little darker.

For the final touch of graveyard fun, I added some sheet moss to the edges and crevices of the tombstones using a hot glue gun.

I love how the wrinkled tissue paper gives them a faux stone look. By dry brushing them with the black paint it really enhanced the wrinkles and brought out the texture and detail on all the decorative pieces I glued onto the tombstones.

Here you can see them in action the night of the party. I really love how they turned out and how they added some ghoulish fun to the center of the island!

Halloween Apothecary Bottles | Halloween Printable Included

Hello all! Halloween is coming and I'm in full on Halloween decorating mode. Every year, I love to add to my decorations for our annual Halloween party and this year I wanted to create a set of Halloween Apothecary Bottles. I thought these would be perfect to go along with my costume this year - a witch! Keep reading to learn how to create your own Halloween Bottles and to download the free printable I created.

1. Begin by collecting glass jars from various food items - such as spaghetti sauce, jelly, etc.

2. Clean the jars and remove any labels using UnDu.

3. Spray paint the lids with black spray paint and let dry.

4. Print the Halloween Bottle Labels using the free printable you can download below.

5. Cut out the labels and apply Distress Ink using: Vintage Photo, Pumice Stone and Walnut Stain. Use a foam blending tool to blend the inks and give the labels a more distressed, vintage look.

6. To adhere the labels to the jars, use Therm O Web Sticky Dots. Simply lay the label onto the adhesive, peel it up and stick it onto the jar.

7. Repeat this for each label.

Once you are finished with the labels, you are ready to fill your jars. Here are some ideas of various things you can use:

Bat Wings - wing shapes cut from black cardstock and bent to give them a little dimension (you could also use plastic bats)
Bone Dust - Baby Powder
Bat Wings - Black craft feathers
Liquid, such as the Poison and Spider Venom, use food coloring or spray ink to dye the water in various colors

DIY Wooden Easter Decor

Easter is this coming weekend, so I decided it was time to get crafty and make some DIY Wooden Easter Decor that includes some adorable wooden bunnies and eggs.

I began by gathering my supplies which included some wooden eggs and bunnies from Hobby Lobby, along with chalk paint, cream wax and a paint brush. For a complete list of supplies, please see below.

Before I started painting the bunnies, I decide to add some texture to them using Gel Medium Heavy Gel. I happened to have Gloss, but Matte would work just fine. I used a spatula to apply a thick layer of the gel medium to both of the wooden bunnies.

As you can see, I put it on rather thick and made sure it was not smooth to help give it more texture.

After the gel medium was dry, I painted the bunny with the Everlasting (White) Chalk Paint. When the paint dried, I noticed that it had a cracked appearance. This was a nice surprise and I loved how it added even more texture to them. I ended up applying two coats of paint.

After the paint was dry, I applied the Cream Wax with a foam brush and wiped away the excess with a rag. I love the wonderful antiqued feel the Deep Brown wax added!

To finish off the bunnies, I added eyes and noses using adhesive black pearls and a crinkled seam binding bow!

I painted each of the eggs a different color of the chalk paint. I mixed the Romance (Red) with Everlasting (White) to get the soft pink color. After the paint was dry, I applied the cream wax with a foam brush. I then wiped off the excess and buffed them using a rag. The eggs seemed too plain with just a coat of paint, so I decided to dress them up using some ric rac ribbon from my stash. It was originally white, so I used Tim Holtz distress ink and a foam applicator to add some color to them.

To adhered the ribbon to the wooden egg, I used Therm O Web's iCraft Super Tape.

Now, my home is ready for Easter thanks to this cute DIY Wooden Easter Decor!
