Sparkle and Shine with Tim Holtz Distress Holiday Products: Twinkle Paste & Snowflakes

The holiday crafting season is here, and I’m excited to share a festive card project that sparkles and shines thanks to the brand-new Tim Holtz Distress Holiday release! This year, Tim Holtz and Ranger Ink have introduced two stunning products designed to bring texture and twinkle to your winter creations: Distress Texture Paste Twinkle and Distress Snowflakes.

Merry & Bright Deer Christmas Card by Juliana Michaels featuring Tim Holtz Ranger Ink Distress Twinkle Paste and Distress Snowflakes

DISTRESS TWINKLE & SNOWFLAKES

Distress Texture Paste Twinkle is a translucent gloss paste filled with tiny glitter flecks. It adds beautiful dimension and shimmer, perfect for creating textured backgrounds that catch the light just right.

Distress Snowflakes are a custom blend of twinkling glitter mixed with translucent mica flakes. They bring a nostalgic, wintry sparkle that’s ideal for embellishing holiday cards and crafts.

MERRY & BRIGHT CHRISTMAS CARD

In my latest video, I created a Christmas-themed card that highlights both these products. The background features a blend of Distress Inks layered with the Twinkle Paste to give it that festive shimmer and textured glow. To top it off, I used the Snowflakes to embellish the card and shared my tips on how to adhere these delicate flakes securely so they stay put.

STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL

If you want to see exactly how I made this sparkling card, the video walks you through each step—from blending the Distress Inks to applying the Twinkle Paste for texture, and finishing with the Snowflake embellishments. I also share practical tips for using these new products to get the best results on your own holiday projects.

GET READY TO SPARKLE

Whether you’re a seasoned card maker or just looking for a fun, festive project, these new Distress Holiday products add just the right amount of shimmer and magic to your crafting. You’ll love how easy it is to bring sparkle and texture together for a truly eye-catching card.

I hope this inspires your holiday crafting! If you give this card a try, I’d love to hear how it goes—drop a comment or share your photos with me on social media.

Stay crafty and sparkle on!

Poinsettia Perfection: Holiday Card Ideas with 49 & Market Sizzix Christmas Stamps & Dies

Today I’m sharing a card that’s bursting with holiday cheer, featuring some of the brand-new 49 & Market Christmas stamps and dies from Sizzix. I’m a total sucker for a poinsettia, so the Poinsettia Trio Stamp & Die Set had me at “hello.”

This set includes three different sizes of poinsettia blooms you can use solo or layer up for extra drama. With both outline and solid layering images, the mix-and-match possibilities are endless. And just when you think it couldn’t get better—there’s also a sweet pinecone and a perfectly festive pine branch to help you build your own winter floral arrangement.

Warm Hugs Christmas Card by Juliana Michaels featuring 49 & Market Sizzix Poinsettia Trio and Special Delivery Stamp and Die Sets

WARM HUGS CHRISTMAS CARD

For my card, I stamped the poinsettia outlines in Archival Ink Red Geranium and layered them with Distress Oxide Lumberjack Plaid for that rich, cozy holiday red. I used the two largest flowers, die cut them, and popped them up with 1mm foam adhesive for dimension. The centers got their golden glow from Archival Ink Fossilized Amber (outline) and Distress Oxide Scattered Straw (solid), also with a bit of foam adhesive to make them shine.

The pinecones came to life with Ground Espresso and Gathered Twigs, while the pine branches got a mix of Rustic Wilderness and Peeled Paint for that fresh-from-the-forest variety.

For the background, I grabbed some patterned paper from the Vicki Boutin Mistletoe & Memories collection, trimmed it to size, and added subtle stamping with the Special Delivery Stamp Set in Versafine Clair Sand Dune for a soft, tone-on-tone effect. I inked the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide, distressed them with a Ranger Sanding Disc for a bit of rustic charm, then layered it over another coordinating paper from the same pack.

To finish things off, I added a sentiment from the Special Delivery Stamp Set, die cut with one of the included dies—because no festive card is complete without a merry message!

I hope this little burst of holiday inspiration gets you excited to try out the new 49 & Market Christmas stamps and dies from Sizzix. They’re perfect for adding that handmade magic to your holiday season!

FEATURED TECHNIQUES

  • Inky Backgrounds: I used Distress Inks with Halloween-themed stencils to build up layers of spooky color and pattern. A touch of Black Texture Paste adds that extra bit of eerie dimension.
  • Alcohol Ink Die Cuts: For the focal point, I used Alcohol Inks and the brand-new Alcohol Neons to create bold, glowing embellishments.
  • Layering with Stamps & Stencils: I brought in some of my favorite Halloween stamps and stencils to add subtle texture and interest throughout the card.

Whether you’re familiar with these techniques or trying them for the first time, I walk through each step clearly so you can follow along and get inspired.

Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween 2025 | Wickedly Grungy Mixed Media Card Tutorial

The Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween 2025 release is officially here—and it’s wicked in all the best ways! Whether you're a long-time fan of Tim’s classic Halloween designs or just love the layered look of mixed media, this release has something to stir your creative cauldron.

In my latest video, I’m sharing a quick look at the new Sizzix release—including six re-released die sets and two newly resized A5 embossing folders. Then I’ll walk you through how I used one of the new sets, Witchcraft, to create a wickedly grungy Halloween card packed with texture, depth, and spooky vibes.

Handmade Halloween card featuring a spooky witch silhouette from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Witchcraft die set. The card has a grungy mixed media background with crackle texture, stamped details, and layered Distress Spray Stains in warm, earthy tones. An embossed spiderweb and machine stitching add extra dimension and a vintage, haunted feel.

What’s New in the 2025 Release?

The Halloween 2025 collection brings back six iconic Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween die sets, giving both longtime crafters and new fans a chance to play with these hauntingly fun designs. Plus, two of his most popular embossing folders have been resized to A5 format—more space to grunge it up!

The Wickedly Grungy Card

For this project, I featured the Witchcraft die set and combined it with a variety of techniques to build a layered, textured background that feels spooky and worn in the best way.

Here’s a peek at what I used:
  • Distress Spray Stains for inky, vibrant layers
  • Crackle Paste to create aged, eerie texture
  • Stamping for extra visual interest
  • Machine Stitching for that final, unexpected touch of dimension

The best part? These techniques aren’t just for Halloween. Switch out the colors and focal point, and you’ve got a go-to formula for grungy mixed media cards all year long.

Something Wicked Good | Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween 2025

Something wicked good is coming this way… The Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween 2025 release is here!

Tim has gone back to the vault and re-released some of his classic Halloween and Fall die sets. These are not reimagined or resized—they’re the exact same designs and dimensions as the original releases. So if you already own them, you’re all set! But if you missed out the first time around, this is your chance to grab them and complete your collection. As a collector myself, I was beyond excited to add several of these spooky favorites to my stash.

Handmade Halloween card featuring a dark, moody ink-blended night sky with a glowing full moon, gold stars, and white embossed spider webs. Silhouette die cuts of trick-or-treaters and bats are layered over the background, with a dimensional sentiment reading 'Trick or Treat' in black and white.

Trick Or Treat Halloween Card Details

One of the standout sets is the adorable Trick or Treat die set. I don’t know about you, but I have a soft spot for simple silhouette dies. They’re perfect for layering over fun mixed media backgrounds—and these sweet little trick-or-treaters are no exception. I was especially inspired to create a dark and moody Halloween night sky, thanks to the incredibly talented Emma Williams.

To bring that eerie night scene to life, I started with a piece of Distress Watercolor Cardstock (smooth side up, as always) and used the Moon Layering Stencil. I applied a touch of Pumice Stone Distress Ink around the edge of the moon mask, spritzed it with water to let the ink bleed, and dried it with my heat tool. With the moon mask back in place, I blended Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot Distress Ink around it to build the sky. A few water spritzes and a quick dry later, I was ready to move on.

Next, I added details inside the moon using the second layer of the stencil and Antique Linen Distress Ink. I finished off the moon with water splatters for added texture, dried again, and reinked the sky to deepen the color.

To create a magical starry night, I used the Hocus Pocus stencil with Gold Lunar Paste—the perfect way to add shimmer and dimension. I also stamped the spider web images from the Unraveled stamp set in the upper corners with embossing ink, then heat embossed them with white embossing powder for an extra spooky touch.

The Trick or Treaters and bats were die cut from black cardstock and adhered with black foam adhesive to give them a bit of dimension. For the sentiment, I layered two die cuts—one in white cardstock and the other in black textured cardstock, which I spritzed with Fossilized Amber Distress Spritz to give it a subtle shimmer. I offset the two slightly and popped them up with foam adhesive for extra impact

This card was an absolute joy to create. There’s something so satisfying about bringing a scene to life with simple dies and layered textures. I hope it inspires you to play with this wickedly wonderful release!

Let me know in the comments—will you be snagging any of these re-released sets? And what’s your go-to Halloween crafting vibe: spooky, sweet, or somewhere in between?

Happy haunting and happy creating!

One Die. Two Cards. Endless Possibilities (Almost)

One die set. Two cards. Honestly, it could’ve been three or four—but time wasn’t on my side. (The leftovers are still sitting on my desk though… so never say never!)

Grungy Seth Apter Tim Holtz Cards by Juliana Michaels featuring Seth Apter Waffles Die Set

Before we dive in, just a heads-up: these cards are big. Like 4 x 8 inches big. If that feels oversized to you, you can totally scale things down—and bonus, you’ll get even more cards from all the pieces! I combined dies from Seth Apter and Tim Holtz for this duo. Their styles work beautifully together—Seth brings the organic, abstract vibes, while Tim adds that perfectly grungy vintage touch.

Card One: Layered Texture & Floral Accents

I started with a panel of Distress Watercolor Cardstock cut to 5.5 x 8.5 inches—big enough to work with the Seth Apter Waffles Die. I sprayed the panel with Distress Spray Stains in Milled Lavender, Tea Dye, and Speckled Egg, plus a bit of Milled Lavender Distress Oxide Spray for that chalky glow.

Life Doesn't Have To Be Perfect Card by Juliana Michaels featuring Seth Apter and Tim Holtz Sizzix Dies

After the background dried, I stamped some texture using Tim Holtz stamps with Vintage Photo Archival Ink, then die cut the panel using the Waffles Die—making sure to save every little negative piece.

For the top layer, I die cut a second Waffles piece from watercolor cardstock, applied embossing ink, sprinkled on Seth Apter Brick Embossing Powder, and heat embossed it. This became my dimensional focal point, which I layered onto two die cuts from Scrapbook.com Mixed Media Cardstock (super thick = great dimension), and trimmed to fit.

The base panel—cut to 3.75 x 7.75 inches—was ink blended with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink, spritzed with water, and edged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I glued the stacked Waffles die cut on top and began the fun part—inlaying all those tiny sprayed and stamped negative pieces. It’s a tight fit, but the Scrapbook.com Craft Pick Pro made it much easier. A little liquid glue kept everything locked in.

To finish it off, I sprayed three panels of watercolor cardstock—each with a different Spray Stain (Milled Lavender, Tea Dye, Speckled Egg)—then die cut them with Tim Holtz Wildflower Stems 03.

A stamped sentiment from the Tiny Text Stamp Set, some inked edges, and a foam strip for dimension wrapped it up. I mounted everything onto a 4 x 8 inch white card base inked around the edges with—you guessed it—Vintage Photo.

Card Two: Inky Layers & Heat Embossed Details

This time, I ink smooshed a panel (3.75 x 7.75 inches) into Old Paper Distress Ink, splattered it with water, and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.

Make The Days Count Card by Juliana Michaels featuring Seth Apter and Tim Holtz Sizzix Dies

I trimmed down the leftover Waffles die cut from the sprayed/stamped panel and layered it onto two thick cardstock pieces, just like before. To add something new, I used the Ranger Embossing Pen to apply ink inside the open areas and heat embossed them with Brick Embossing Powder.

For embellishments, I sprayed more panels in the same trio of colors and die cut pieces from the Seth Apter Borderlines and Twisters die sets.

I finished with another stamped and foam-mounted sentiment from the Tiny Text set, and mounted the final panel to a white 4 x 8 inch card base inked with—say it with me—Vintage Photo.

And there you have it—one die, two unique cards! You could easily keep going by changing the size, colors, or leftover pieces. I hope this inspires you to stretch your supplies and mix up styles.

Game-Changing Craft Tools | Sizzix Circular Pads & Scrapbook.com GripMate

If you love making tags, cards, or any kind of papercrafting—I’ve got two new tools to share that just made my crafting life so much easier. And to show them in action, I created a trio of sweet baby-themed tags using some of the new baby products from Scrapbook.com.

Baby themed tags by Juliana Michaels featuring Scrapbook.com Special Delivery and Welcome Baby

These tags are perfect for baby shower favors or gift toppers, and they came together beautifully thanks to a few clever tools and the adorable baby themed stamps and dies from Scrapbook.com.

New Tool #1: Sizzix Circular Cutting Pads

These new cutting pads are designed specifically for small and medium-sized dies, and I love how compact and easy they are to use. The circular shape helps reduce warping over time—a common issue with traditional rectangular pads—and they glide smoothly through your die-cutting machine. I used both the 3.5" and 5" sizes in today’s project, and they worked perfectly alongside my Scrapbook.com Magic Mat and the Sizzix Chrome Precision Plate.

Sizzix Circular Cutting Pads

New Tool #2: Scrapbook.com GripMate

This little sticky mat is a total game changer for stamping, stenciling, and ink blending. It holds your paper firmly in place—no shifting, no slipping—so you can focus on creating, not constantly repositioning your cardstock. It’s sized to fit perfectly in a MISTI or other standard stamping platform, and it’s super easy to clean with just a damp cloth or baby wipe.

The Project: Baby-Themed Gift Tags

To highlight these tools, I made three baby-themed tags using new dies and stamps from Scrapbook.com. The designs are simple, but the dimension and clean finish make them stand out. I finished each tag with a stamped sentiment and a touch of ribbon—ready to go on a gift or favor bag.

Tim Holtz Mini Distress Oxide Ink Pads | Butterfly Dreams

I’m so excited to share another card I created using the brand-new Mini Distress Oxide Ink Pads from Tim Holtz and Ranger Ink!

These minis are the same size as the Distress Ink Mini Pads, but they’re filled with the same unique ink formula as the full-size Distress Oxide Ink Pads. I love that Tim and the Ranger chemists were able to make this happen—it wasn’t something they originally thought would be possible!

Now, the mini size might not be for everyone—especially if you already own the full-size pads—but if you’re new to Distress Oxides, this is a fantastic (and more affordable) way to start exploring the medium. Plus, they’re perfect for travel and storage, and as I’ll show in today’s project—and in my most recent video—there are certain techniques you just can’t do with the large pads.

That said, there are a couple things to keep in mind: because they’re smaller, you’ll likely need to re-ink them more often, so it’s worth investing in the coordinating re-inkers. Also, the lids are quite snug. This helps prevent them from drying out, but they can be tricky to remove if you have hand pain, arthritis, or grip issues.

Alright, now let’s get into the making!

Live Your Dream With Passions Butterfly Perspective Card by Juliana Michaels featuring Tim Holtz Ranger Ink Mini Distress Oxide Ink Pads

To create this card, I used the same stamping technique I shared in my most recent video—you can check that out HERE to see it in action! The stamp set I used is the Tim Holtz Perspective Stamp Set.

I applied Mini Distress Oxide Inks in Stormy Sky, Peeled Paint, Rusty Hinge, and Ground Espresso directly to the butterfly stamp. After lightly misting it with water, I stamped the image onto a piece of Distress Heavystock. Once it was dry, I used the coordinating die—available exclusively from Simon Says Stamp—to cut out the butterfly.

For the sentiment, I inked it up with Ground Espresso, then used the matching die from the same exclusive set to cut it out.

The background was created by pressing the Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Mini Ink Pad directly onto a piece of Distress Heavystock, creating imperfect squares of color. I repeated this to form a loose grid pattern. Next, I used the Halftone Stencil to apply Stormy Sky Distress Oxide, followed by Distress Texture Paste Opaque through the Blossom Stencil. I set the panel aside to dry.

One of my favorite details? How the Texture Paste absorbs the Vintage Photo Oxide Ink, adding unexpected texture and variation to the background. I finished the panel by inking the edges with Stormy Sky—wait, what?! No Vintage Photo or brown ink for the edges this time? I know! I can't believe it either… but honestly? I’m kind of loving it!

Whether you're new to Distress Oxides or already a fan, the minis are a fun and fresh way to shake things up in your crafting. I’m having so much fun exploring the possibilities. I hope you’ll give them a try too!
