Newton's Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration | Day 1

Hello friends and welcome to Day 1 of the Newton's Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration Blog Hop! This month Newton's Nook Designs turns 4 years old and we're celebrating all week long with fabulous project inspiration, giveaways and the release of some fabulous new stamps, coordinating dies, stand alone dies and a new product....stencils! All of the new products will be available in the Newtons' Nook Designs Store on Friday, July 14.  I also invite you to hop along on Friday for a very special blog hop that includes all new projects from the Design Team along with some very special guests!

Today we're featuring two new sets that focus on a summer theme that's near and dear to my heart - the lake! I grew up going to the lake in the summer and it brings back so many wonderful memories of spending time with my family camping, fishing, and swimming!

Lake Card - Lake Advice Stamp Set

This first card features the new Lake Advice Stamp Set. I used my MISTI to stamp a background paper using the various images from the set. I then colored them with Zig Clean Color Real Markers and blended the ink with a water brush.

To help the sentiment stand out, I die cut it using a double stitched square die and then inked the edges with Vintage Photo and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink. I then mounted it to some dark brown cardstock before adhering it to the card front with some double sided foam adhesive.

Lost At The Lake Card - Winston's Lake House Stamp Set

Next up is the new Winston's Lake House stamp and die set. How cute is Winston kicking back at the lake in his Adirondack chair with a glass of lemonade?! You may notice something new for me on this card. I was recently gifted a set of Chameleon Pens and I decided to finally break them out on some of my cards for this release. I have really enjoyed learning to use them and love the way they work and the vibrancy of color they provide compared to colored pencils. I'm hoping to share my thoughts and some tips on using them soon. Would you like to learn more about them? If so, just let me know in the comments section.

To create the lake effect behind Winston, I stamped Salty Ocean Distress Ink onto my craft mat. I then added some water with a paint brush and then dabbed the brush onto the paper.  Because I knew I was going to be adding water to the ink, I used a piece of watercolor paper. While the ink was still wet, I used my heat gun to dry it. When that layer was dry, I added more ink and water and dried it again. I repeated this process several times to build up some layers of color for added depth and interest.
