Today, I have a new scrapbook page to share with you using Leaky Shed Studio Chipboard and a fun technique to give the chipboard a chalkboard look. The chalkboard trend is all the rage right now and I have grown to love the stark contrast and bold statement it can add to a project.

TECHNIQUE | CHALKBOARD CHIPBOARD

To achieve the chalkboard look on my chipboard, I simply painted the chipboard with black acrylic paint. Once it was dry, I drew on it with a white chalk pencil. I smudged the chalk slightly with my finger tip and it was ready to adhere to my layout. It is such a quick and easy technique!

INSPIRED BY | FIRST KISS PATTERNED PAPER

I was inspired to try this technique as I was going through my papers, trying to decide which ones to use on the layout. The Pebbles Inc Yours Truly First Kiss chalkboard pattern caught my attention. I knew when I saw it that I wanted to attempt this look on my chipboard.

Elle's Studio January Kit and Layout

Today is Elle's Studio January Kit and January Inspiration Gallery reveal. I am thrilled to be a part of each of these with several new scrapbook layouts that I have created. You can see all of my layouts, as well as inspiring projects by the rest of the Design Team, in the Inspiration Gallery.

The layout I am sharing today was created using the January Kit, Digital Cut File and patterned paper from the Penelope collection. I loved selecting bits and pieces from the kit and coordinating them with papers from this collection.

A fun tip I have to share with you is that the larger blue piece of "paper" on the left hand side is the packaging from the kit. When I was creating the layout, I felt like it needed another piece of blue to help balance the placement of the blue die cuts. I also love using the printed strips at the bottom of each of the patterned papers. I combined and layered these with the Heart Doodle and Love cut files.

American Girl Doll Store Layout

Last year I took my sister and I took my nieces to The American Girl Store for the first time. They had been dreaming (and begging) to go to the "American Girl Doll Store" for quite some time, so when I came to town for a visit we knew it was time to make their wish come true!  The girls were so excited that they could hardly hold still long enough for me to get a photo. In fact, the oldest is jumping up and down in this one!

To create this layout, I used a combination of papers and products from Bella Blvd. I also used my most recent FREE digital cut file called Entwined Hearts, which you can download and use for your own personal use. (Click on the words Entwined Hearts.)  I also used this cut file on a recent layout entitled "Love This Moment".

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Die cut heart background from Bella Blvd Snapshots / Rise & Shine Patterned Paper. Adhere to layout.
2. Cut hearts from Bella Blvd / Daily Chevies & Everyday Bits Chevy Bell Pepper Patterned Paper, All American – American Pride and Birthday Girl – Sugar Rush. Adhere to layout.
3. Cut 4 5/8” x 9” piece from Bella Blvd Snapshots Borders paper. Adhere to layout.
4. Cut Hello Happiness from Snapshots Daily Details paper. Adhere to layout.
5. Mount 4 x 6” photo to white cardstock with 1/8” border. Adhere to layout.
6. Embellish with stickers, die cuts, jewels.
7. Add chipboard and letter stickers for title.
8. Add journaling with pen.

Entwined Hearts Free Digital Cutting File

INSPIRATION | THE CLOTHING & THE ACTIVITY

The lime green color of my favorite fleece inspired the color palette and I was drawn to using Echo Parks Here & Now collection, along with some Heidi Swapp Serendipity patterned papers. The activity of going flying with my Dad inspired the elements I choose to document this awesome event. It was a fun experience for two reasons. One, I love to fly, no matter what size the plane. And two, I got to fly with my Dad! How cool is that?!
