Sewing with Gold Thread, Scrapping with Bar Code Strips and Heat Embossing Wood Veneer

Happy Monday all! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Today I have a new scrapbook page to share with you that I created for Elle's Studio May Inspiration Gallery. I've also shared a few tips and techniques that I used while creating this layout.

SEWING WITH GOLD THREAD | Recently I attended the Memories Scrapbooking Expo and Jenni Bowlin had a booth there. I saw a layout in her booth that used gold thread on it and I immediately fell in love with the idea and knew I had to get my hands on some gold thread ASAP! Well, needless to say, I finally did and I used it on my Never A Dull Moment scrapbook page.

DESIGNER TIP | Since the gold thread is a little more expensive than plain colored thread, I used white thread for the bobbin. This saves money and you really can't tell.

SCRAPPING WITH BAR CODE STRIPS | This layout initially started out with the idea that I wanted to use as many of the bar code strips from Elle's Studio as possible on one layout. I always trim these off and save them. I use them all the time on my layouts, but I still have quite a stash, so I wanted to use up some of them. I went through what I had in my scrap drawer and selected ones that matched the striped dress my niece is wearing.

HEAT EMBOSSING WOOD VENEER | Have you tried heat embossing on wood veneers? I hadn't until this layout, but it works beautifully. All I did was tap a Versamark ink pad on the veneer to cover it with ink, sprinkled it with embossing powder and then heat set it with my heat gun. Wah-la sparkly stars!!!

Aren't these gold stars fabulous? These are stamps that are part of the Elle's Studio Patriotic Exclusive Stamp Set. I stamped them with Versamark ink as well and covered them with gold embossing powder before I heat set them.

  1. Gorgeous page! Love the idea to heat emboss the wood veneers - the gold sparkle on a page looks fab. (Now if I could just find my embossing gun and get my sewing machine to work. ;) ).

I've been seeing a lot of things done with the gold thread lately, and I have to say that I absolutely love it! Your big stitchy circle element is fabulous. 9. What a GORGEOUS page and you tips and ideas are worth their weight in gold hehe ;) I love the entire LO and must definitely try to heat emboss on my wood veneer today, thanks to you! :) I'm still very much a beginner seamstress so, I will probably hold off on the gold thread til I'm more confident, but great tip on using regular thread on the bobbin--and noted! Thanks so much for sharing this most delightful page! Super inspired!
