Jillibean Soup Cold Avocado Soup Layout

I know that CHA Winter 2014 has just finished, but I am still enjoying quite a few collections from the Summer. Today, I have a layout I recently created using one of my favorite collections from the Summer CHA scrapbook releases - Cold Avocado Soup by Jillibean Soup. It took me a while to get my hands on it, but when I did, I had a great time creating several layouts. The layout I am sharing with you today came together by layering several papers from the collection along with a variety of fun embellishments.

This group of embellishments is a combination of Jillibean Soup Pea Pod Parts, Freckled Fawn wood veneer, and Paper Bakery Flair.  The green arrows are Dusty Attic Chipboard that I colored with Ranger Distress Ink in Peeled Paint.

SRM Stickers Life Is Good Layout

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I hope you are enjoying some time with your family and friends and taking in what this special holiday is all about! Today, I wanted to share a layout I have up on the SRM Stickers blog. This was a free play assignment, so I had the option to create whatever I wanted with whatever SRM Stickers I wanted. It's always fun to play with paper and stickers! Don't you agree?

While I was playing with my paper and stickers, I created this layout about my niece. I used a combination of SRM Stickers to help create my title, "Life is Good", and to add a little journaling. It was just an ordinary day. We didn't do anything special, except spend time together. By using some of the sentiment stickers I was able to "record" how much I enjoyed this day together with her. When I look at this layout I am reminded of this and how much I love her!  I love that about sentiment stickers. They can add just the right touch to help you capture a thought, feeling or memory.

Today I Was Here Layout | Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge 13

Sketch Challenge 13 is live on the Paper Bakery blog. I was inspired to create this sketch after getting a sneak peek of the contents of the September Scrapbook kit. That Glitz Design Wild & Free sticker sheet did the trick!!!

Today I Was Here Layout by Juliana Michaels

TIP | Altering stickers
A simple trick I used on this layout was to take the feather stickers and cut them so that you looked more like a real feather. To make this easier, I applied baby powder to the back side of the sticker, which removes the stickiness and then cut them with my scissors. I then attached them to my layout with double sided foam tape to give them even more dimension.  I then grouped them together with a feather charm and ribbon to make a nice little cluster.

Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge 10

It's time for a new sketch challenge on the Paper Bakery blog. Sketch Challenge 10 is live!!! Here is my latest sketch for Paper Bakery and my take on the it using the August Scrapbook Kit.

Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge 10

I switched it up a bit when I created my layout, by flip flopping the placement of the everything from the original sketch.  Because of the position of my subject in the photos, I felt they looked better and helped draw your eye into the layout by placing them on the right hand side of the page.  I then cut some strips to create the banners from various pieces of patterned paper using the August Scrapbook Kit. I then layered them and my photos onto a large rectangular piece of patterned paper and a piece of cardstock to create the base and background for my layout.

I created part of my title using my Silhouette and my own handwriting which was super fun, and some of my all time favorite letter stickers by Jillibean Soup that also included in the August Kit!

I then created a vertical "border" with the wood veneer hearts from Freckled Fawn and heart confetti that are included in the August Scrapbook Kit! They were so much fun to play with!!!

Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge #9

Are you ready for another Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge? I sure hope so, because this one is full of fun layers and ideas of using multiple photos! You are sure to find it inspiring. I know I did!

Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge 9 Juliana Michaels

For my take on the sketch I flipped the design horizontally and I used two photos instead of three. The one thing I loved about this sketch were all the fun layers and banner strips so I did my best to incorporate as many of them as possible into my design. I created my layout using a mix of the July Boardwalk Scrapbook Kit and Project Kit! Seriously they are perfect together because everything coordinates fabulously! I also had fun using the exclusive Paper Bakery Chain Link Stencil that is part of the July Mixed Media Kit.

I placed the stencil on my layout and then applied a thin layer of Liquitex Modeling Paste using a putty knife. Remember to give it time to dry before you add the rest of your papers and embellishments.

Some favorites of mine from the  Scrapbook Kit were the exclusive Paper Bakery Compass Flair and the cute little anchor charms! I thought they were totally adorable and they fit perfectly with the theme of my layout.

Staple It Together | A Tutorial with Crate Paper Plastic Alphas

Hello and welcome everyone! Have you seen Paper Bakery's July Boardwalk kits? I have had so much fun creating with them! The nautical theme of this month's kit was perfect for our recent move to live near Lake Erie and I used it to scrap a photo of me during one our first trips to the beach. It was still a little cold out that day, which is why I have on my winter coat! Scrapping this photo really shows the versatility of this kit.

I used my Nautical By Nature digital cutting file to create a fun journaling spot for my layout. You can download this free digital cutting file on my blog or from Paper Bakery's blog.  I also used some cuts from Paper Bakery's July cut file as well! In this detail shot you can see a peek of the Crate Paper Clear Alphas that I used for my title. Keep reading for a fun little tutorial that I created to share with you on how I attached these letters to my layout using a stapler!

Paper Bakery July Boardwalk Kit Lake Erie Layout by Juliana Michaels

This little cluster of goodness was fun to create using a mix of the Studio Calico Atlantic Brads, Wood Veneer and Vellum Die Cuts.

Paper Bakery July Boardwalk Kit Lake Erie Layout by Juliana Michaels

TRENDS | Nautical and Wood
Nautical, nautical, nautical! Need I say more! The nautical look is everywhere right now and I am loving it! Especially the combination of orange and navy in Studio Calico's Atlantic collection. I have always loved orange and now I am loving navy too!
Another big trend is wood, and Studio Calico has been doing it well with all of their fabulous wood veneers sets. The fun stained pieces that are part of the Atlantic collection provide a darker alternative to the sets they have been releasing and I find the darker color a fresh new option.

TUTORIAL | Stapler + Crate Paper Clear Alphas
I want to share with you a technique that I came up with using a stapler and the Crate Paper Clear Alphas. This technique came from the fact that I did not have a stapler strong enough to go through the two layers of plastic and I wanted to staple them together! If you have a more industrial type stapler you should be able to staple through these letters with no problem.

1. Begin by selecting the letters you want to use. The letters have a plastic covering on the front side that you will want to remove before adding them to your layout.  Place the letters so that they slightly overlap each other.

2.  Remove some staples from your stapler and hold them on the letter like this.

3. Use a craft pick and poke holes in the plastic letters using the stapler as a guide for where to poke the holes.

4.  Take one of the staples and put it through the poked holes. Add the next letter and fold the staple together to hold the letters together.  Repeat this on each letter.

You can also poke holes through your layout to use this same technique to attach the letters to your layout.

Weather Foreast | 100% Loved

Isn't it fun just to create for the sake of creating? To play around with your crafty stuff and not worry about anything but having fun? That is exactly what I was doing when I was making this card. I did have one goal in mind though...I wanted to make a thank you/love you card for my husband who has been extra special sweet to me lately! I wanted to let him know just how much it has meant to me!

I created this card using some scraps from the Paper Bakery July Boardwalk Kit. After I had completed my regular assignments, I still had some great scraps to work with so this came together rather quickly. I made the pink stenciled background while I had my modeling paste out for another layout that I will be sharing with you later this month for Sketch Challenge #9. I loved this Chain Link stencil and it really pops on the pink cardstock.  I also enjoyed mixing up two of the new stamp sets from Paper Bakery to create my sentiment!

TREND | Nautical
Enough said...nautical anything is all the rage right now and this kit is full of a fabulous range of nautical themed products. I also used a digital cut file from my Nautical By Nature set as the central design element.

100% Loved Card by Juliana Michaels

TECHNIQUE | Stamping
A simple technique that I was reminded of recently is to stamp on a piece of paper and then cut it out. I can be a little timid with stamps sometimes, so this is a great way to get it "just right" before you add it to your card or layout.

Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge #8

Happy Sunday everyone! It is time for another Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge! I present you...

Paper-Bakery-Sketch-Challenge-8-Juliana-Michaels

And this is my take on the sketch! I definitely did not follow the sketch this time. In fact I switched it up quite a bit. I used only one photo and I flipped the design horizontally. I also moved the position of the title. I love creating sketches, but I really enjoy how they can inspired my layout.  Sometimes I really enjoy taking the easy road and to follow the sketch exactly, and at other times it is fun to use it as a starting point. That is exactly what I did this time. I was inspired to use the squares above and below the photo as well as the strip behind them. Instead of circles though I choose to use some die cut clouds. Remember, let the sketch inspire you. You do not have to follow the shapes and patterns exactly.

Paper-Bakery-July-Kit-Juliana-Michaels-Relax

As I created this layout, I used a combination of products from both the July Boardwalk Scrapbook Kit and Project Kit.  One of my favorite things in this kit were the Studio Calico Wood Veneer Circles. I gave them a coat of Distress Ink in Picket Fence for a bit of a whitewashed look and then I added a layer of Glossy Accents for a bit of shine.  Sometimes it is just fun to play with products and see if you can give them a different look!

Paper-Bakery-July-Kit-Juliana-Michaels-Relax

I also had fun playing with the exclusive Paper Bakery Anchor Background stamp that is part of the July Mixed Media Kit! I stamped it and heat embossed it using gold embossing powder. I think it added a fun and unexpected touch of shimmer to the die cut clouds!
