What to Expect

Whether you're new to mixed media cardmaking or a seasoned crafter looking to explore a bold new style, this class will help you build confidence working with multiple mediums and layering backgrounds and embellishments into cohesive, stunning finished cards.

You'll Learn How To:

  • Create four different mixed media backgrounds using techniques like stenciling, spray inks, acrylic paint, and embossing folders
  • Build layered, dimensional embellishments using die cuts, stamping, heat embossing, and more
  • Work with water reactive dye inks, water reactive dye sprays, and acrylic paint to create rich, moody color palettes
  • Add depth and texture using tools like brayers, blending brushes, texture paste, and rubbing wax
  • Combine stamped focal images, ephemera-style elements, and steampunk-inspired die cuts into cohesive, finished card designs
  • Embrace the grunge — imperfection, layering, and happy accidents are part of what makes this style so beautiful

Supplies You'll Need

To help you get an idea of the types of supplies you'll need for this class, I've put together a general supply list that you can view before registering. Once you purchase the class, you'll also receive a detailed supply list and class prep checklist to make getting ready even easier.

I recommend shopping your stash first, but for the best results, I suggest using similar supplies for optimal results with the techniques we'll be learning.

Where to Watch

The class will be hosted privately on YouTube. You'll receive your exclusive access links in your welcome email after purchase. Once the live class ends, the replay will be added to the 17turtles online classroom along with all class materials.

Replay Access: Replay access will be available the next day (or as soon as it's uploaded), and you can watch it anytime, at your own pace.

Class Length: Each session is approximately 2 hours, with a 1-hour break in between. I recommend reserving a little extra time at the end of Session Two in case we go over.

This is a LIVE class taking place on Saturday, July 19th, 2025. There are two sessions of 2 hours each.

Stretch Your Embossing Folders. This class is designed for anyone who is interested in learning more about using embossing folders and mixed media. Throughout the class you’ll learn 4 ways to combine embossing folders with inks, sprays, paste, wax and paint to create a variety of unique effects. Each technique is broken down into easy to follow steps to create a stunning background.
Throughout the class I’ll be sharing loads of tips and tricks as well. Whether you’re new to embossing folders and mixed media or a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone. Once the background techniques are completed, I will then share some ideas on how to finish the cards.

The goal of this class is to boost your confidence in using your embossing folders for a variety of mixed media techniques and feel comfortable incorporating them into your paper crafting project.

Where To Watch. The live class will be hosted on YouTube. You will be sent a private link to access the class. Once the live class is over, a recording of the class will be available in my online classroom and you will be sent a link to access it. It is the same place where you will access the Welcome/Prep Video, Class Guide and other class materials.

Replay Access. The day after the live class (or as soon as I can get it uploaded) you will have access to the live replay, pre-recorded content and to all other class content and materials that you can enjoy whenever it fits your schedule and you can watch and rewatch as you desire.

Giveaways. Giveaways are open to all registered students. You do not have to be present to be entered for a giveaway.

Class Length. The class is scheduled for about 3 hours, but I would set aside extra time just in case.

General Supply List. Here is a list of the general supplies you will need for this class. Yes, this may seem like a lot of supplies, but remember this is a mixed media class, so more supplies are needed to do the various techniques. A detailed supply list can be found in the class guide if you decide to take the class and I also discuss this in more depth in the Welcome / Prep video that is included when you purchase the class.
