Hi Love Library Pockets

Hey there 17turtles fans! Suzanna here today to share with you another layout. Today's layout uses the Hi Love Library Pockets Digital Cut File. This file is so versatile and can be used for a variety of themes.

17turtle files arrive with layers that are colored, making it convenient for you to move them and re-size them as needed. Orginally, the "love" and "xoxo" were words that came layered on top of other files. I removed the bottom layers enabling me to cut out the words alone.

The "hi" pocket can be cut one of two ways; either using the "hi" with the same cut as the pocket, as I did, or you can remove the word from your first cut, thus just leaving you a pocket, then cut "hi" from another patterned paper which you would then glue on top of the constructed pocket. As the reverse side of my patterned paper didn't coordinate with my layout, I backed the hole, or negative space, with a complimentary patterned paper before constructing the pocket.

I Am | 17turtles Cut Files

Hi everyone! It’s the second Monday of the month and that means I get to share my 17turtles project with you! It’s Monique Liedtke with a fun layout using the 17turtles Digital Cut Files called Everyday Circle Clips.

I really love the trend where you use a large cut file and adhere all kinds of different patterned papers behind. So that’s what I did for today’s project!

I Am Scrapbook Page by Monique Liedtke featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Everyday Circle Clips

I chose one of the four cut files from the Everyday Circle Clips, the one with the camera, and enlarged it to almost 12x12 size.

17turtles Digital Cut File Everyday Circle Clip

I cut it out of a sheet of smooth white cardstock and used a black pen to trace the camera to emphasize it a bit more. I glued different papers from the Simple Stories I Am collection behind it and use one small(ish) photo which I positioned on the left side of the camera. Next I embellished around it.

Creating with Background Cut Files

Happy Monday! It’s Katrina sharing a page with one of the newer background files in the 17turtles Etsy shop, Heartfelt Background. As soon as I saw this file, I knew it was going to be my next project.

I love background files that you can back certain areas of and can give them a different feel than what you would originally think of using them for. When I first started this layout I was going to use the pink paper for the cut file, but then decided that I liked the contrast and pop of the black polka dot paper.

I love that with this file it is super easy to use different papers to back and add a twist, instead of backing with all one paper. I love paper and patterns, so I love adding more if I can!

I didn’t add a lot to this page, because I felt like the background was the perfect touch and I didn’t want to hide too much of it. I did add the journaling area and then the embellishment area below. Both of the areas were just to highlight my photo.

Happy Hoppy Easter | The Evolution Of A Scrapbook Page

Hi there! Suzanna here to share with you the evolution of a layout created using 17turtles Digital Cut Files! The end result, as seen here, and the end result as conceptualized are far from the same. That's okay, I am pleased as can be with the outcome.  It just wasn't what I had set out to do. A happy accident, shall we say?

Hoppy Easter Scrapbook Page Layout by Suzanna Lee featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Happy Hoppy Easter

This layout was always going to have a grid format and it was always going to be an 8.5x11 sized page. It was also always going to incorporate those particular patterned papers. What evolved was how I ended up using the cut files. My original plan had been to weld the title words of the cut files together, as I did. I then wanted to cut the words individually from four different patterned papers and insert them into the negative (or background) which I would cut into a 4x6 rectangle.

The welding was easy. All you have to do is ungroup the set and move things around as you want them lined up then click on the "modify" button on the top, right hand side of your screen. Next click on "weld" in the window that appears. See, I told you it was easy. Now, if you knew what you were doing ahead of time, I would recommend that you duplicate/copy these words at this size before you click weld and then move them off your printable area so that you have the correct size "inserts" to insert into the negative space. You would then cut the four words from four different patterned papers. However, I didn't like that! I couldn't see the words distinct and it was too busy…

Hoppy Easter Scrapbook Page Layout by Suzanna Lee featuring 17turtles Digital Cut File Happy Hoppy Easter

I decided to try and use my sketch pens and outline the negative, or background, on the pastel yellow cardstock, then use the same four patterned paper cut words to insert, hoping that this would fix the busy and make things more distinct. That plan didn't turn out as expected. But it did leave me with the foundation of what I have on the final page. The welded words, once cut, had some of the sketch pen on them and I really liked that shadowed look. SO, I scrapped the patterned paper words and the sketch pen background and decided to offset for an additional layer of color.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the step by step behind the scenes process of what ended up on the page!

I used two NEW 17turtles Cut Files on my layout that are now available in the 17turtles Shop!

How To Use Silhouette Sketch Pens | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial

Hi everyone! Happy Monday to you! Hope you've had some time to scrap this weekend! Today it's Monique with a fun tutorial using the Silhouette Cameo Sketch Pens with one of the 17turtles Digital Cut Files called This Is Magic.

I made this layout about our tradition to celebrate the start of the summer holidays with our favorite pastry. For the background I used the 17turtles Circle Grid Digital Cut File and for the title I used one of the words from the This Is Magic cut file, but instead of only cutting my title, I used my sketch pen first. Here’s what I created:

Memories Scrapbook Page by Monique Liedtke featuring 17turtles Digital Cut Files Circle Grid and This Is Magic

And here's how I did it. I opened the cut file in my Silhouette software.

How To Use Silhouette Sketch Pens | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Monique Liedtke

I chose the words I thought I wanted to use for my layout and deleted the other words.

I resized them and because I wasn't sure of the size I wanted I also copied one. Next I clicked "send to Silhouette", "adjust cut settings", chose "cardstock" and then chose "Sketch Pen" (which you'll find under the drop down arrow next to "Ratchet Blade"). Remove you Silhouette blade and replace with a Silhouette sketch pen and click cut.

How To Use Silhouette Sketch Pens | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Monique Liedtke

It's very important that you leave the cutting mat and the images in place when the Silhouette has finished sketching your title! Do NOT remove the mat from the machine!!!

Next select your shapes and click on "offset your selected shapes" (it's the circles icon at the bottom of your screen) and if you wish you can adjust the offset distance on the right side of your screen.

Once you've done that you have to remove the black shapes before you start cutting.

So when you start cutting it looks like this: don't forget to replace your Silhouette Sketch Pen with the Silhouette blade and to select the cardstock option in the settings window on the right side of your screen.

And when you're done your title will look like this.

Very easy, right? Next a few close-ups of my page.

Silhouette Sketch Pens - A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial

Hey everyone, Katrina here from Paper Scissors and Glue, on the 17turtles blog to share a tutorial on using the Silhouette Sketch Pens. I admit, I hid my Sketch Pens in the back of a drawer for quite awhile before I put them to use. I HAD to buy them, didn’t mean I had to use them, right?!

Coffee Is A Hug In A Mug Scrapbook Page and Silhouette Sketch Pen Tracing Tutorial by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut Files

Well, I am here to show you one way to play with your sketch pens and create a fun title on your page. I started with the “Coffee Is A Hug” cut file.

Coffee Is A Hug In A Mug Scrapbook Page and Silhouette Sketch Pen Tracing Tutorial by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut Files

I originally planned on making an 8.5 x 11 inch layout, but changed my mind at the end. So, I had changed my paper size in Silhouette to match my original plan! I sized the entire cut file around 4x4 inches, because I knew how that was how big my picture was and I was going to center everything.

Once, I got my title sized, then I started working on tracing my letters. The reason being is that I wanted to have smaller pattern paper letters inside the sketched letters. You will need to click on “select trace area” and then draw a box around the set of letters you are tracing. This will turn them yellow (see below).

If you move the high pass filter up, it will fill in the entire letter yellow and then when you hit trace it would cut out the outer edges of the letter. But, I wanted to cut out a smaller letter. To do this, I moved the “high pass filter” to a lower setting and then select trace. This will trace your letters or shape and they will look like this. This creates a letter you can cut out within the bigger letter.

Coffee Is A Hug In A Mug Scrapbook Page and Silhouette Sketch Pen Tracing Tutorial by Katrina Hunt featuring 17turtles Digital Cut Files

See below, there is a smaller letter inside the bigger one. To separate these letters, you will do have to do a couple of steps.

Move your selection that you just traced. I do this so I don’t mess anything up and I can see what I am doing. Then with your letters selected, you will right click and “release compound path”. This will allow you to move that smaller letter that is inside the bigger one. I moved all my smaller letters over to one side of the mat, leaving the “extra big ones” moved over to the other side of the mat. I never moved my actual title. By tracing it, you basically create a working copy, leaving the original fine.

Make sure you have all your pieces and parts off the mat before you begin using your sketch pens to draw the title. The V3 software for Silhouette is a little confusing as to where the sketch pen setting is. It is in the cut settings, under Silhouette Sketch Pen. And I always select double cut, because I use textured cardstock and this ensures that I get a good solid line with my pen.

Once you have your title sketched onto your layout, you can now begin the fun of picking out the colors for the letter that you want to fill in.

To save time, if you want letters the same color, cut them all out at the same time by placing them on your mat together!

I also used the “I Love Coffee and Tea” cut file for the steam coming out of my cup!

I hope I have given you an idea for using your sketch pens! There are so many fun things you can do with them. I love to journal with them, but that is for another blog posting! I am always sharing sneaks on my social media so follow me if you want to see previews!!
