Lucky You St. Patrick's Day Scrapbook Page

Today I'm sharing a scrapbook page I created using Elle's Studio March Digital Cutting File. When I first saw the four leaf clovers, I fell in love. I also knew they would be perfect to use on a scrapbook page with these photos of my nieces enjoying the St. Patrick's Day Parade. I have been holding onto these photos for two years, just waiting for the right inspiration. Don't you just love when things seem to be made for each other like that?

TIPS AND TECHNIQUES | BRUSH SCRIPT TITLES AND ALTERED LETTER STICKERS

Lately, I have been intrigued by the hand lettering and brush script fonts that seem to have become so popular right now. Back in the day, I used to do a lot of calligraphy and hand lettering. When I first started scrapbooking, we didn't have all these cool letter stickers and die cutting machines to use and I used to do all of my own titles. I need to pull some of those out one of these days and share them. LOL!

Anyway, this inspired me to pull out one of my Tombow Dual Brush Pens and starting practicing on some scrap paper. Once I was happy with the look, I pulled out a piece of "good" paper and created my title. I then cut it out to create my own "die cut" title!

The small letter stickers were originally gray, but I colored them black with a marker to help them better match my layout.

I attached the title to the layout using double sided foam tape to give it more dimension.

FUN FIND | RIBBON

If you are looking for a way to add texture without bulk to your paper craft projects, then check out this awesome ribbon I used. Tracey Sabella gave me some when we got together recently to scrap and I immediately fell in love with it! It adds a subtle touch of texture without being bulky or overly obvious. After I adhered several strips to the background paper, I then sewed the four leaf clovers in place on top of them.

Filling Die Cut Negative Spaces and Color Wheel Free Cut File

Welcome everyone! I have a few things to share with you today including a scrapbook page, a quick tutorial on how to fill die cut negative spaces and a FREE cut file. To start, I want to share a scrapbook page that I was inspired to create after I finished a page for the 3 Birds Studio Blog using their Graceful Season collection. We are having a Pinterest Inspiration week on the 3 Birds Blog and the image I found and used as my source of inspiration was a color wheel image. Make sure you stop by today and see my inspiration image and scrapbook page.

I Adore You Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels using 3 Birds Studio Graceful Season Collection and 17turtles.com Color Wheel Digital Cut File

During the process of creating the page for 3 Birds, I designed a cut file to use for both the shapes on my background and as a guide to help me position these shapes. I hated the idea of throwing away that "scrap" guide and was inspired to use it on a another scrapbook page. That is when my "I Adore You" scrapbook page was born!

I used the color wheel shape that I cut from white cardstock (this is the scrap guide I mentioned above) and then filled in the negative spaces / openings with alternating pieces of patterned paper.

TUTORIAL | FILLING DIE CUT NEGATIVE SPACES

What are negative spaces you might ask? They are the openings that are left when you remove the cut shapes from the die cut. The full color wheel shape is the positive image. This tutorial describes a simple way to fill these openings with patterned paper.

This is the color wheel shape and I cut from white cardstock and how I positioned it to use as a guide for my scrapbook page that is on the 3 Birds Studio Blog.

Negative Pieces from Color Wheel Digital Cutting File
These are the scraps or negative pieces from the color wheel image you see above.

Tracing negative piece from Color Wheel Digital Cutting File
I took one of these pie shaped scraps and placed it on the backside of a piece of patterned paper. Next, I traced around it with a pencil. By tracing on the backside of the paper, it saved me from having to worry about erasing the lines.

Cutting traced image
I trimmed around the outside of the traced image with scissors, leaving a small border about 3/8" thick. This extra space allowed me to be able to glue this piece to the back side of the large color wheel shape.

Filling in negative spaces
I turned the color wheel shape over so the back side was facing upward.

Filling in negative spaces
Next, I applied liquid glue along the edges of each opening and

Filling in negative spaces
then adhered one of the pieces of patterned paper to fill the opening.

Filling in negative spaces
I repeated this process to fill in every other opening with the same pattern.

I later decided to trim around the edge of my color wheel shape, however I have made the cut file so that it will do this for you if you want it too. Letting your electronic cutting machine cut it for you is certainly easier than hand trimming it!

I then adhered the cut image onto another piece of patterned paper to fill in the other openings.

I again decided to trim around the orange polka dot paper with my scissors. Again, to make this easier for yourself, I would recommend using the outer circle from my cut file and your cutting machine to cut the large circle.

Free Cut File Friday - Potty People Wedding

As many of you know, I have been creating FREE digital cut files for quite some time now. I love to make them and I love to share them! My plan from now on is to create and share a free one at least 1-2 times a month (maybe more) and post them here on my blogs on Friday! Today, I have a fun collection to share called Potty People Wedding. I originally created this for a set of projects I created for SRM Stickers CHA booth in January to help showcase their new adhesive vinyl.

Now I want to share a couple of projects I made using this file. For this first one, I used the Potty People on a SRM Stickers Glassine Bag to create a wedding favor. I welded the two potty people's hands together to create one larger sticker from the adhesive vinyl. There is a quick tutorial on the SRM Stickers blog on how I cut and adhered the vinyl to the glassine bag. You can check it out by clicking on the link here: SRM Stickers - Playing with Vinyl Tutorial by Juliana

On this wedding favor, I cut the wedding rings from the vinyl and then adhered them to a SRM Stickers clear container purse.

I hope you enjoy the free cut file! I am looking forward to using the titles on a scrapbook page soon myself. And as always, I'd LOVE to see what you create with my cut files. If you have something to share, you can link it below or post it on Facebook and tag me!

Hello Spring Wall Decor

Spring is coming! I can feel it! (Even if there is still snow on the ground as I write this post.) To help get me in the mood for spring, I recently created a Hello Spring wall decor piece using a clip frame I found at Pier 1 and the Pebbles Inc. Garden Party collection. I wanted something to help remind me that it would eventually be here! The Garden Party collection is filled with all things spring - such as flowers, butterflies, bees and even umbrellas. It also has a wonderfully yummy color palette of pinks, blues and greens!

I recently shared a Patriotic version using this same Pier 1 clip frame. I seriously love how easy it is to switch out the cards. I attached them to the wire frame using Pebbles Inc clothespins. I can't wait to create more versions to carry me through the various holidays and seasons! For detailed instructions on how I created the cards for my Hello Spring Clip Frame, please visit the Pebbles Inc Blog and for a complete supply list, please see below.
