Happily Ever After

Last weekend I went to my niece's wedding and of course, I had to make her a and her husband a card. It was a beautiful ceremony and reminded me and my husband of our special day nearly 8 years ago. The card I made for her used one of my favorite Little Yellow Bicycle collections - Just Because. It is perfect for those everyday photos and those special moments when the primary sentiment you wish to express is love! Of course those fabulous foiled chipboard hearts made my heart sing and had to take center stage on the front of my card. I then added some SRM Sticker sentiments to further wish the newly married couple lots of love and happiness.

I even got a little crazy and decorated the inside of the card before adding a hand written note.

A Sympathy Card

Sometimes as you peruse the world wide web you see something that is exactly what you are looking for at that very moment. I recently had this happen to me as I was looking for a sentiment for a sympathy card. My cousin had just passed away and I wanted to make a sympathy card for my Aunt. I have to admit, this was a new one for me. I just haven't done this even though I have had other opportunities when this would have been a nice thing to do. This sort of thing is always difficult and I just didn't know what to say on a card. I decided that this was no longer going to be a good enough excuse, so I went searching and came across a beautiful card with the perfect sentiment on Tammy Hobbs's blog.

"May each new day ease the burden of your sorrow."

She used a stamp for her sentiment, but I didn't have it so I created mine using my computer. I printed it, figured out where to place it and then cut out the label shapes with my Silhouette. It took a little practice to get things lined up, but in the end it worked out just fine.

Watch Me

I just love spending time with my nieces and right now I am missing them quite a bit! I knew that would be one of the tough things about our recent move...being far away from my family is not easy because now I can't just jump in the card and see them in a couple hours. Now it's an all day car ride or a plane ride. I will say that scrapping photos of them helps though. The layout I have for your today is of my niece showing off how well she could navigate the monkey bars!

She was so proud of how well she could do this so I knew that the title "Watch Me" would be perfect and I found a border just what I was looking for in my stash of SRM Stickers! This layout is also one of the projects I created as part of my recent guest spot with SRM Stickers!

The background die cut image was created using the negative pieces from the layout I created for my Little Yellow Bicycle Fern and Forest Girl Cycling Team post. I love to save my scraps and find ways to use them on other projects!

I have something I have to admit. I have a new love...these gorgeous Cork Shapes Butterflies that are part of the Little Yellow Bicycle Naturals Collection! They seriously make me happy!!! They add wonderful texture without a lot of bulk and that is something I adore in embellishment! To create the body of the butterfly I took apart some of their Naturals Tiny Clothespins. I didn't want the bulkiness of using the entire clothespin. I then cut the clothespin down as needed to fit the size of the butterfly and hot glued them to the cork.

One final note to share is that I used one of the SRM label stickers for my journaling! I mounted the sticker on a piece of white cardstock and trimmed around it with decorative scissors. I then added my journaling with a brown marker.

Little Yellow Bicycle | Quilt Pattern Background, Tutorial and Free Cut File

Little Yellow Bicycle has been showcasing their new Fern and Forest Girl collection on their blog and it continues today with a project I created as one of their Cycling Team Members! I absolutely adore this collection and found that it went perfectly with almost all the photos I have of my two adorable nieces. In fact, it was difficult for me to choose which photo to use for my layout!!! The photo I choose is of my nieces with youngest one wearing her new fairy wings. I had given them to her as one of her Christmas gifts. She was delighted and proceeded to wear them the rest of the day!

I immediately knew that I wanted to use the little fairy image from the Chipboard Shapes to remember those sweet little wings! The layout was then embellished with some of the coordinating Cardstock Stickers, Journaling Cards and flowers from the Paper Crafting Kit. If you look closely you will also notice that I used some Canvas Tags and Canvas Stickers that are part of the new Naturals collection.

Now, lets take a look at the background piece I created. I have recently been intrigued with adding more sewing type projects to my layouts and the idea of making a quilt pattern fit the bill. It also allowed me to incorporate several different patterns of paper.

This particular quilt pattern is referred to as a Carpenter's Wheel. I found a pattern online and then tweaked it in Photoshop to play around with the colors that I wanted to use. This is what I finally settled on for my colors.

To create this pattern you will need to cut the following number of each pattern/color:

4 Gray Squares

16 Gray Triangles

16 Pink Dot Triangles(light pink)

32 Pink Herringbone Triangles(dark pink)

16 Pink Floral Triangles(medium pink)

I also created a SVG and Studio compatible cut file that you can download for FREE!!!

Carpenters Wheel Quilt Pattern

I used this cut file and my Silhouette Cameo to cut my squares and triangles, but if you don't have a cutting machine you could use punches or even a paper trimmer to cut them. The squares are 1.5" and the triangles are 1.5".

Once you have all of your shapes cut out you will want to mount them on your blue background paper. I used a ruler to mark the center of the paper by drawing two intersecting lines.

I then used my pattern to help determine which color and/or shape to adhere. I started in the middle and worked my way outward.

This is the completed patterned adhered to the background paper.

And then, as if that wasn't enough, I decided to use my sewing machine to actually make a "quilt". This took a little bit of time, but I didn't stitch each block individually, If you look closely you will see that I sewed in straight lines and just turned around here and there and until each block was stitched around all sides.

Make A Wish

Today I am sharing another layout I made as part of my Guest Designer projects for SRM Stickers! I also used the new Little Yellow Bicycle Fern and Forest Girl collection! Again, I found another photo of my nieces that was perfect for this collection! My nieces found some dandelions and were having fun blowing them and making wishes. Of course, when I asked E if I could take a picture this is what she did. I am so glad I caught that look on her face. I love the fact that her little sis is behind her and still intently blowing and making wishes is just adorable! It really captures their personalities!!! I created the die cut background piece using scraps from another layout that I will be sharing next week as part of my Little Yellow Bicycle Cycling Team post. So stay tuned for that!

Here you can see a combination of SRM border stickers and The Twinery twine! I love that I was able to combine the "Make A Wish" SRM Stickers with the Little Yellow Bicycle transparency and chipboard letters to fully capture what they were doing with the dandelions!

SRM Stickers Guest Designer

Happy Thursday everyone! Today I am up on the SRM Stickers Blog as a guest designer! I was thrilled when Susan asked me to create a few projects for her using some of her new releases!!! I created several projects and I will be sharing them with you here over the next few days. You can see all of them today on the SRM Stickers Blog and I highly recommend that you stop by because they are having a GIVEAWAY just for leaving a comment on my guest designer post!!!

The project I choose to share with you today is a wedding card and gift box that I created for my niece who is getting married at the end of this month! The new Wedding Stickers By The Dozen were perfect to create both the card and gift box. I used one of the round labels as the center for each of my scallop punched flowers. I also used the sentiment on both.

I created the gift box using the medium Clear Pillow Box. I embossed it with my Cuttlebug and then added the sentiment sticker and layered flower.

Those super cool cork butterflies are from Little Yellow Bicycle. I dressed them up with a bit of twine from The Twinery (which I am absolutely in LOVE with!!!). To created the body, I folded a small length of twine in half. I then tied a knot making the folded piece the length of the butterflies body. Next, I coated the twine with Fabric Stiffener to make it easier to attach to the butterflies. Once dry, I trimmed the antenna to the desired length and adhered them to the cork using Glossy Accents.

For the card I also embossed the patterned paper with the same embossing folder that I used on the pillow box. I then added the large "Forever" sticker which is from the We've Got Your Sticker Forever set.

Creating with the Scraps off my Table

Starting today our big move begins. The house is being loaded onto the moving van today and we will move into our new home on Thursday. I can NOT wait!!! I have pre-scheduled this week's and some of next week's posts because I am not sure when the internet will be turned on at our new house. Planning ahead and organizing are my middle names! LOL!!!

Anyway, let's get to why you are here. Yes, I played with the scraps from my table!!! I created this one quite some time ago using what I found on my scrap table after making another layout: the negative star strips, the stars, the circles and the chevrons. I never do this because I always completely clean up my table between each and every project. Silly maybe, but I feel like I work better that way. I will say I am pleased with what I created using my scraps though! I really like the funky feel of the design including the fun zig zag stitching around those die cut circle pieces!

I also used an pen and ruler to add some lines here and there on the layout for a fun little touch.

Little Yellow Bicycle: The Escape

Today is my day on the Little Yellow Bicycle Blog to share some projects I created as part of The Escape Cycling Team! I also wanted to share them on my own blog too!

First up I have a mini album I created for my niece. We recently went on a weekend trip to Springfield, IL to check out the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. It was a great day spent with my family and I wanted to create something special for her to remember our time together. I will be seeing her this coming weekend and I am planning to help her fill out the 5 Favorite Memories pocket and other journaling pieces to record her memories of the weekend. I used a combination of embellishments to decorate the album including the 6 x 6 Paper pad, 6 x 6 Decorative papers, Paper crafting kit, Chipboard, Tear Out Tickets & Journaling and Cardstock stickers. I also created this fun travel change jar by recycling an empty peanut bar jar! The idea came to me as I was rinsing it to put it in our recycle bin. We love to travel and we would love to visit Italy someday. Hopefully this will help us keep motivated on saving for our next trip! Whether it be to Italy or some where less exotic!
I used a flower from the Paper crafting kit to decorate the lid. I also used Chipboard pieces, Cardstock stickers and their fantastic Vellum Tape! I am in LOVE with that stuff! You can read more on how I created it on the Little Yellow Bicycle Blog.
