Bo Bunny | Handmade Christmas Ornaments

Hi all!  So who is in the Christmas spirit yet?  I sure hope you are!  I am trying my best, but I am finding it a little difficult this year since we are getting ready to move again.  I will not be putting up a Christmas tree or decorations this year and these always help me get into the holiday spirit.  With that option gone, I  had to come up with something else this year.  My solution was to create some Christmas ornaments and cards.  One of the projects I created recently was a handmade Christmas ornament using the gorgeous Bo Bunny Rejoice collection!


The base of the ornament is a paper mache base that I have had in my stash for a couple years.  I covered it with a scrap of patterned paper.  I then cut a small strip to cover the edge and then added strips of punched paper to create the "lace" border.  I simply glued this to the back side of the ornament and as I turned a corner I lightly misted the paper with water and folded the paper. 


I embellished the front using a layered chipboard sticker from the Rejoice collection and some Jewels. I added some gold glitter glue around the outside edge of the sticker for a bit more bling.  Then I lightly misted the entire piece with gold Glimmer Mist.

Thankful For My Baby Cakes

Ciao Bella | First Bella Blvd Post

Ciao & Welcome!!! Today is my first day on the Bella Blvd Blog as one of their Ongoing Guest Designers!  I had so much fun playing with the goodies they sent to me that I ended up creating three layouts to share using some of their newest collections.  First up is a layout using their fabulous new Kiss Me Collection.  I love the color combo so very much and the patterns are fantastic as always!  The other thing I love about this collection is its versatility. It's not just for Valentines Day. It is perfect for Everyday!!!  This first layout is of my niece and when I saw this collection I knew it would be the perfect match for this photo.  I had been holding onto this photo waiting patiently for the "perfect" papers and they finally arrived with the Kiss Me collection!!!




My next two layouts were created using the Thankful Collection.  This collection made my heart sing because of the color combination.  I love orange, yellow and green and this collection as plenty of that along with some blue, red and even pink!!!  I had fun incorporating a variety of patterned papers on this layout and it was easy to do by creating strips and cutting them into banners to create the background. And yes, those pies are homemade...my mom's pie crust is the best!!!


And aren't the Bella Flags awesome?!  I love the little touch they add to a layout!



Do you notice anything here?  Something a little different that I used as an embellishment? I am not going to tell, but if you guess correctly you get a cookie!!! LOL!!!


Last but not least, is this layout of my niece from last Thanksgiving.  She can be such a turkey some times and she was all about putting on a show for me as she was eating her pumpkin pie.  Probably because she knew I was taking photos!  Anyway, they were a perfect match for that cute little turkey on the Borders & Cute Cuts papers. I created a pie chart piece to "frame" the silliest photo of her and to allow me to incorporate a few more pieces of patterned paper into the layout.

Before & After | A Scrapbook Page Makeover

Have you ever created a layout and then decided you really didn't like it? Usually, I am satisfied with my layouts when I am "finished" with them. Recently, however, I created a layout that I just did not like.  I took photos, posted it on my blog HERE, but I just didn't like it. I set it to the side despite this feeling and then a couple weeks later I decided I was going to try to "fix it".  This is the original layout that I didn't like.


Here is the "fixed" layout.


I added a few things here and there and I think I finally like it a bit more. It seems a bit more finished with the addition of the other embellishments and bits of patterned paper.  I also added a bit more ink to helped the embossed/stamped images show up a bit more. 




What are your thoughts?  I just loved this photo of my Dad & husband so much that I wanted to love the layout too! KWIM?!

The Bee Keeper Part 2

Hey all!  This is another layout I did about our adventure with the bee's earlier this year.  Danny was so excited and intrigued by the bee keeper that he just had to get a photo with Paul!  And of course, I was quite fine with that since I knew it would make for a fun layout to scrap!  As soon as I saw The Sweetest Thing Honey Perfect Best paper from My Minds Eye I knew I had to use it with this photo.  I fussy cut the honeycomb and bees to create fun borders/corners.  I then dug through my stash and found various patterned paper scraps in various yellow patterns and the multi-colored paper to create the borders on the outside edges. 


I also found this fun glitter paper from Darice at my local JoAnns.  I am kind of loving the addition of a bit of glitz to my layouts and what a perfect way to do so!  The paper is adhesive backed, so I cut a couple strips from the paper and added them to my layout.  I then added a mix of brads and chipboard/wooden buttons as well as a few sequins to dress it up a bit more.

Snow Day with NO Snow!

Today on the Bo Bunny blog several of us are sharing layouts we created using the new Snow Day collection.  It is a gorgeous collection designed to work perfectly with all your winter weather photos.  This would be a no-brainer right?!  All I would do is scrap a winter layout.  Well, Kris added a little twist to the assignment...she asked us to create a layout using Snow Day for anything BUT snow!!!  After taking a second look at the papers, I realized very quickly realize how versatile these papers really are.  With that in mind, I decided to get totally away from winter and I decided to create a layout using a photo from this past summer.  I choose several different patterns that did not have obvious snow flake images (and let me tell you there are plenty of them in this collection!) and cut and layered them to created my layout. I cut some of the papers into a wavy pattern to represent the lake as I was out enjoying the sun in my Dad's boat. 


I also had fun playing with a stencil from The Crafters Workshop.  I used simple white acrylic paint to add the design to my layout.  I then stamped several images from the Snow Day stamp set for added interest.

Buttermilk Blueberry Breakfast Cake

I created this layout for the My Minds Eye November Challenge.  The challenge was to scrapbook a family recipe. The recipe I choose was a new one that I made recently, but it was so yummy and will most definitely be repeated in the future...Buttermilk Blueberry Breakfast Cake.  If you love blueberries then you will LOVE this recipe! It is so moist and yummy and very easy to make.  I have the recipe below, if you are interested in giving it a try.

So enough talk about the cake! Here is my layout for the challenge using a mix of My Minds Eye collections from my stash. The brads alone come from about 5 different ones!!!


I love My Minds Eye for their gorgeous patterns and embellishments.  But what I love the most are the colors and how perfectly they match and coordinate from one collection to the next.  I also tend to buy it and hoard it, but I have quite a bit of it from some recent scrappy shopping that I am feeling a little more comfortable with digging in to it and using it!!!






Buttermilk-Blueberry Breakfast Cake
Serves 6-8
½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature2 tsp. lemon zest or more — zest from 1 large lemon7/8 cup* + 1 tablespoon sugar**1 egg, room temperature1 tsp. vanilla2 cups flour (set aside 1/4 cup of this to toss with the blueberries)2 tsp. baking powder1 tsp. kosher salt2 cups fresh blueberries½ cup buttermilk** This 1 tablespoon is for sprinkling on top* 7/8 cup = 3/4 cup + 2 tablespoons


1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Cream butter with lemon zest and 7/8 cup of the sugar until light and fluffy.
2. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until combined. Meanwhile, toss the blueberries with ¼ cup of flour, then whisk together the remaining flour, baking powder and salt.
3. Add the flour mixture to the batter a little at a time, alternating with the buttermilk. Fold in the blueberries.
4. Grease a 9-inch square baking pan (or something similar) with butter or coat with non-stick spray. Spread batter into pan. Sprinkle batter with remaining tablespoon of sugar. Bake for 35 minutes. Check with a toothpick for doneness. If necessary, return pan to oven for a couple of more minutes. (Note: Baking for as long as 10 minutes more might be necessary.) Let cool at least 15 minutes before serving.

Creative Scrappers | #233

I have another sketch up on the Creative Scrappers blog today and I can't believe this, but I actually played along with my own sketch this time. I don't get to do that very often,  but I particularly liked this sketch when I created it and so I just made the time to play along this time!
I have to admit that the final layout and what I envisioned before I started were not the same. But I think that is part of the creative process some times!
I used the Cocoa Daisy Aspen Grove Kit from October to create my layout.  I loved that kit!  The colors and patterns just made me happy and I also loved the alphas that came with it.  I added some things from my stash as well.  The stars template is from The Crafters Workshop and the wooden stars and camera are Studio Calico. I think I am addicted to those little bits right now!!!
I am particularly in LOVE with anything to do with stars too!
One thing I have definitely decided is that I want to do more stamping.  I haven't had the urge to do this for quite some time. I think mostly I get discouraged because of the ink.  I just can't seem to find a good quality ink that covers the stamps well.  I am never sure if it is stamp or ink.  If you have any thoughts on this topic I would LOVE to here them.  Can you help a "want to stamp girl" out?!
