Inlaid Die Cuts On A Scrapbook Page | Elle's Studio

Together Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels for Elle's Studio using Inlaid Die Cut Technique

Inlaid die cuts seem to have become quite popular lately. What are inlaid die cuts you ask? Typically this is when you die cut an image from paper and then inlay the die cut back inside the negative portion. It allows you to create an embellishment for your project that adds some texture and dimension without any bulk. I have seen it used a lot on cards with metal dies and I have loved the look. This got me to thinking about how fun it would be to try this technique on a scrapbook page using a die cut created with my Silhouette Cameo.

TECHNIQUE | INLAID DIE CUTS ON A SCRAPBOOK PAGE

I didn't do a full inlay for my background, but instead I used the technique to create some of the background embellishments. I began by selecting the Heart Frame from the Elle's Studio July Cut File images to use as my die cut. I opened the image in my Silhouette program and copied it onto the mat 3 times. I then copied and pasted the 3 frames and then flipped these 3 images horizontally so that I had reverse copies.

Cut file image and reversed or horizontally flipped images to use as inlaid die cuts

Next, I cut the 6 Heart Frames from the Elle's Studio Shine On The Dock paper with my Silhouette Cameo. I took the negative pieces (the inside of the frame and the heart) from the top 3 frames, flipped them over and put them inside the opening of the bottom 3 frames. I then attached my inlaid die cuts to my background paper.

So there you have it, inlaid die cuts on a scrapbook page. I really like how it turned out and I know I will be using it again soon. Have you tried this technique yet? I'd love to see it!
