Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge #7

Good morning! Today I am up on the Paper Bakery blog with our new sketch for Sketch Challenge #7. This sketch is a bit more specific than what I normally create, but I hope you enjoy it all the same. I specifically incorporated some of the cut file images from the Everyday Polaroids FREE cut file that we shared with you this month. You could of course, easily replace the "today" Polaroid with another photo or a journaling block and the "star geotag" with another type of embellishment. No matter how you interpret it, remember to just have fun and enjoy the creative process!

This is my layout based on the sketch. I used the free cut files as embellishments for my photo and then placed the journaling above and below the photo.

I added some hand doodling to further enhancement all the frames and I had to use that super cool sequin arrow by Heidi Swapp!!! Another fun detail is that I used the vintage sheet of gin rules that was included in the June Scrapbook Kit as a piece of patterned paper and the base for my photos and other embellishments.

The die cuts were initially cut from white cardstock, but I didn't want them white once I started to add them to my layout so I misted them yellow using Heidi Swapp Colorshine.  I then cut out some extra stars from the American Crafts Glitter Paper and layered them on the die cuts and around my title for added color and dimension.

Last but not least, I decorated one of the die cut stars with one of the Paper Bakery Flair from the exclusive American Crafts Flair set.

Last Day Layout

I just recently returned to work after our move, but going through the process of looking for a new job brought back memories of my last job. I took a couple of photos on my last day to help me remember Sunset Home and the amazing people I worked with. I really loved this job because of them and I really do miss them.  To help me remember them, I decided to create this layout using one of the photos I took of me standing outside of Sunset Home on my last day of work.

Because the photo is monochromatic, it allowed me to use whatever colors and patterns I wanted. I was immediately drawn to this mix of American Crafts and Studio Calico paper and embellishments to create this layout. The colors helped capture the happiness and good memories I have!!!

Mixing and matching patterns and colors that weren't intended to go together is always fun and being a part of the Paper Bakery Design Team has made me want to do more of this when I am scrapping just for me.

My working career is on a different path now, so things won't be quite the same as they used to, but I will always remember the good times and the many things these ladies taught me and how they made me a better therapist. Thanks for stopping by today!

Life is Good | Paper Bakery June Scrapbook Kit

Since we have been celebrating the Paper Bakery's 2nd Anniversary this month, it got me in the mood to create a card and gift card holder that would be perfect for any celebration, including a birthday or even a graduation! used the June Scrapbook Kit - Bayside High to create my set.

Paper Baker June Scrapbook Kit Gift Card and Gift Card Holder by Juliana Michaels

I used the super fun sheet of green glitter cardstock and die cut some stars from it using my Silhouette.  I attached some of them on the gift card holder as you can see, along with a bit of ribbon and flair. The gift card container is actually the glassine bag that all the kit goodies was in when my kit arrived! I just love to re-purpose and re-use things like that! And the yellow striped piece is from the Elle's Studio packaging!

To keep the holder closed, I tied a couple lengths of the awesome neon yellow thread that comes in the kit around it. It can then be easily slipped off to get inside at the gift card.

So after I cut the stars, I had this really cool negative piece that I just could not let go to waste, so I trimmed it down and used it on my card.  I then added some Glossy Accents and pink glitter to a couple of the UMWOW Studio chipboard stars and more of that fabulous neon yellow thread!

Bo Bunny Father's Day Layout

I hope you had a wonderful Father's Day! Since we moved, I am no longer close enough to go and see my Dad for Father's Day. I am hoping we will be able to make a visit soon though. My husband misses giving him trouble in person!!! I did send my Dad a homemade Father's Day card though and I know he will love it...he always loves when I make him a card and this always makes me happy. I also created this layout for him. I was able to visit him for several days before we moved and we had a great time together. This photo reminds me of that time and just how special he is to me!

Bo Bunny Mama-Razzi2 Father's Day Layout Juliana Michaels

I used the Bo Bunny Mama-razzi 2 collection which has some perfect Father's Day and Dad sentiments on the Super Dad Cardstock Sticker. I have really enjoyed how versatile this collection has been to work with!

Happily Ever After

Last weekend I went to my niece's wedding and of course, I had to make her a and her husband a card. It was a beautiful ceremony and reminded me and my husband of our special day nearly 8 years ago. The card I made for her used one of my favorite Little Yellow Bicycle collections - Just Because. It is perfect for those everyday photos and those special moments when the primary sentiment you wish to express is love! Of course those fabulous foiled chipboard hearts made my heart sing and had to take center stage on the front of my card. I then added some SRM Sticker sentiments to further wish the newly married couple lots of love and happiness.

I even got a little crazy and decorated the inside of the card before adding a hand written note.

Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge #6

Happy Father's Day everyone! Today I am sharing the Paper Bakery's Sketch Challenge #6 with you!

Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge #6 Juliana Michaels

Yes, today is Father's Day and how perfect that I ended up scrapping a photo of my Dad to share with you today!!!  I took this photo during one of my visits to see him. Every time we go to see my Dad during the summer, we have to make a trip to the local burger/ice cream joint called Belew's Dairy Bar. In my opinion they make THE best peanut butter malts in the world!!!  Once I had picked this photo to scrap, I decided to use the sketch from Sketch Challenge #6 and this is my take on it.  I pretty much just followed the sketch this time and I enjoyed how quickly it came together. Sometimes it is nice to keep it easy and I find a sketch can always help with that!!!

I also have a tutorial up on the Paper Bakery blog sharing some tips and techniques that I used to create my layout and dress it up a bit. Please stop by to check it out!

Oklahoma Online Benefit Crop Layout

Today is the day!!! The online crop to benefit the victims of the Oklahoma Tornado tragedy is going on right now! You can still register and join in all the fun!!! And even better is that your "registration fee" is being 100% donated to the United Way of Oklahoma to help those who need it most. I am hosting one of the challenges during the crop and today I wanted to share the layout I created for the event. It is based off of a sketch that I have supplied as part of the challenge. I used the new Bo Bunny collection Trail Mix to create my layout and finished it off with a little flair from Paper Bakery. Both Bo Bunny and Paper Bakery are just two of the many amazing sponsors that we have lined up for the crop. I want to personally thank all of the sponsors who donated to this event!

Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge #5

Happy Friday all! I hope you have had a good week. This week has flown by for me, but I have been busy creating with the June Paper Bakery Kit and creating my challenge sketch and layout for the Oklahoma Online Benefit Crop tomorrow June 15. Today, however, I wanted to share the layout I created using the sketch from Sketch Challenge #5 for the Paper Bakery.

Paper Bakery June Scrapbook Kit Sketch Challenge #5 Juliana Michaels

First off, I had to use the fabulous Heidi Swapp paper, but it was a bit bold being only black and white, so I sprayed the background with some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Tropicana Teal and then wiped off the excess. Then I used the stencil from the Paper Bakery May Mixed Media kit with some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Gold to further soften the colors.

Next I tackled the banner image from the sketch.  I had fun using a ton of scraps from my May and June kits to create the fun banner a the top.

Paper Bakery June Scrapbook Kit Sketch Challenge #5 Juliana Michaels detail

Instead of doing another banner at the bottom like the sketch has, I decided to go a different route.  I resized and printed some of the FREE June Printables and added them to the strip at the bottom.

This is the sketch that inspired it all! You have until Saturday June 15th to play along for your chance to win a fun prize package from the Paper Bakery.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a fabulous weekend and maybe you will think about either joining in the fun for the Oklahoma Online Benefit Crop. If you can't play along you could think about just donating to this worthy event as ALL of the donations are being given to The United Way to help the victims of the tornado tragedies. There is a donation button on the top right hand side of the website. Thanks!!!

Clean and Simple Vacation Layout

Several years ago I went on vacation with my sister and her family to Empire, Michigan right on the shore of Lake Michigan. It was a great vacation with so many wonderful memories! What I can't believe though, is that I am still finding photos that I didn't scrap from that vacation! When I came across this one of our trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes it screamed for me to use the new Bo Bunny Key Lime collection and so I did. Along with some bits and pieces from Family Is. This layout is up on the Bo Bunny blog today as part of an assignment to create a clean and simple layout. Make sure you stop by and check out the amazing layouts by some of the other designers!!!

Bo Bunny Key Lime and Family Is Collection Vacation Layout Clean and Simple by Juliana Michaels

A fun little tip I have to share with you today is how I altered some pieces from the Bo Bunny 12 x 12 Chipboard. I loved the look of the chipboard clouds from the Family Is 12 x 12 Chipboard however, the colors/patterns on them did not coordinate with my layout. My solution...I painted them with acrylic paint to match my chipboard title letters!

Bo Bunny Supplies:
Patterned Paper: Silly, Nuts, Ask Dad /Family Is; Notes, Sun-Dew/Key Lime
Brads: Key Lime, Family Is
Stickers: Key Lime Combo Sticker, Family Is Combo Sticker
Chipboard: Family Is 12 x 12 Chipboard, Chipboard Alpha in Chiffon
Noteworthy: Family Is

So, are you going on vacation this summer? Is it somewhere new or somewhere you have been before? We are going to Mexico later in the summer for the first time and I am looking forward to taking more photos and making more memories to scrapbook!!!
